WEST AFRICAN RESEARCH CENTER TRAVEL GRANT

The WARC Travel Grant promotes intra-African cooperation and exchange among researchers and institutions by providing support to African scholars and graduate students for research visits to other institutions and regions on the continent.  

ELIGIBILITY:

This competition is open only to West African nationals, with priority given to those affiliated with West African colleges, universities, or research institutions.

Application Requirements:

Abstract (50-80 words) of proposed activity with a clear statement of purpose

Project/Research description (6 double-spaced pages maximum) including why travel is necessary (must be in  language understandable to non-specialist readers)

Proposed budget

Curriculum vitae (with research and teaching record)

Photocopy of the applicant’s passport (must be a West African national)

All applications must be submitted online in PDF documents

All applicants must have a recommendation letter.

If visiting another institution:
– invitation from host institution

If travel is to consult archives or other materials:
– a description of the collections to be consulted and their significance to the applicant’s research

If you are a graduate student:
– letter of recommendation from professor overseeing your research

BENEFIT:

The WARC Travel Grant provides travel costs up to $1,500 and a stipend of $1,500.

SINGAPORE INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE AWARD (SINGA)

LOCATION: Singapore

The Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) is a collaboration among the Agency for Science, Technology & Research (A*STAR), the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), the National University of Singapore (NUS), the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), the Singapore Management University (SMU), and the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT). It is a bond-free award offered to international students with excellent academic undergraduate and/or master’s results and a strong interest in doing research leading to a doctorate (PhD) or an EngD in Science and Engineering at a Singapore University.

ELIGIBILITY:

Open for application to all international graduates with a passion for research and excellent academic results
Note: SINGA is intended primarily for international students studying for the first time in Singapore. Singaporeans, Singapore Permanent Residents and International students studying/who have studied in Singapore tertiary institutions are not eligible.

Good skills in written and spoken English

Good reports from academic referees

BENEFIT:

The award provides support for up to 4 years of PhD studies, to the tune of $5,700 in total, which includes:

Tuition fees

Monthly stipend of S$2,700, which will be increased to S$3,200 after the passing of the Qualifying Examination

One-time airfare grant of up to S$1,500

One-time settling-in allowance of S$1,000
