WISDEN PHOTOGRAPH OF THE YEAR COMPETITION 2025

Application Deadline:  23:59 GMT on Sunday 4 January 2026

LOCATION: United Kingdom

The Wisden Cricket Photograph of the Year Competition entries for 2025 are open for application. Each entry must be a digital image taken during the 2025 calendar year and submitted via the online form. Each entrant may submit up to three different JPEG images (max 30 MB each) and must include full caption details (location, date) plus technical metadata. There is no entry fee.

ELIGIBILITY:

The Wisden Cricket Photograph of the Year Competition invites both amateur and professional photographers from across the globe to submit one or more images that capture the spirit, drama, or beauty of cricket in the contest year.

There are three categories (“the Categories,” or each one a “Category”) in the competition as follows:

Men’s professional cricket

Women’s professional cricket

Recreational cricket (men, women, and juniors) plus any other cricket-related imagery that does not fit into either of the first two categories.

The judges will decide on a shortlist for each category, from which a winner will be chosen for each category.

The overall winner of the competition will be selected from the three category winners.

A list of the ten leading photographs, drawn from the entire competition (“the Top Ten,” which will include the three category winners), will be chosen from the three category shortlists.

The winning entries in each of the three categories will feature in the 2026 edition of Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack.

Any person may enter the competition, but entries must be submitted via the online entry form here. Each entry must be submitted individually and must clearly state the category for which it is entered.

All photographs entered must have been taken between 1 January and 31 December 2025 and should demonstrate the skill and artistry of the photographer. Images can be from anywhere in the world, and there is no restriction on subject matter as long as it has a cricket theme. Action shots, landscapes, portraits, and images of dramatic or aesthetic appeal are all welcome. All photographs entered must be free of any third-party restrictions regarding their use and publication.

BENEFIT:

The prize for the overall competition-winning photograph is £1,000, a copy of Wisden 2026, plus one-year subscriptions to Wisden Cricket Monthly and The Nightwatchman.

The winners of the other two categories will each receive £400, a copy of Wisden 2026, plus one-year subscriptions to Wisden Cricket Monthly and The Nightwatchman.

ELIGIBILITY:

The Kent Business School (KBS) Research Scholarship is open to applicants from any country. Please note that international students must have the appropriate documentation to evidence eligibility to work in the UK. The method of determining tuition fee status is complex and follows guidelines issued by the UK Council for International Student Affairs.

Successful applications will normally meet all of the qualification criteria (degrees and IELTS score). However, applicants falling short of these but with an exceptional research proposal and references may be considered.

Open to applicants from any country. Please note that international students must have the appropriate documentation to evidence eligibility to work in the UK. Further information can be found on these guidance pages

Open to all new postgraduate research applicants applying for September 2026 entry (current Kent research students are not eligible).

Scholarship cannot be deferred.

Please note that students who have already started their PhD are not eligible for this scholarship.

BENEFIT:

The GTA will cover tuition fees at either the home or international tuition fee rate and will carry a combined maintenance grant and salary equivalent to the Research Councils UK National Minimum Doctoral Stipend (£20,780 for 2025/26). The scholarship will be offered for one year in the first instance, renewable for an additional 2.5 years, subject to satisfactory academic performance.
