UNIVERSITY OF EDINBURGH COMMONWEALTH PHD SCHOLARSHIPS

LOCATION: United Kingdom

The Commonwealth PhD Scholarships are for applicants from least developed countries and vulnerable states, as classified by the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC), in the Commonwealth, for full-time doctoral study at a UK university.

ELIGIBILITY:

To apply for this scholarship, applicants must:

Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person.

Be a permanent resident in an eligible Commonwealth country.

Be available to start academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September 2026.

By September 2026, hold a first degree of at least upper second-class (2:1) honours standard, or a lower second-class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree).

Not be registered for a PhD, or an MPhil leading to a PhD, at a UK university or in their home country before September/October 2026.

Be unable to afford to study in the UK without this scholarship.

Have provided all supporting documentation in the required format.

Provisional selection for a scholarship is subject to the agreement of the university for which candidates are selected, as part of the funding for the scholarship is provided by that university.

GREAT SCHOLARSHIPS AT UNIVERSITY OF WARWICK

The University of Warwick is offering GREAT Scholarships for the 2026-27 academic year. The scholarships are available for all full-time postgraduate taught master’s programmes.

ELIGIBILITY:

To be eligible for a scholarship, you must:

be a passport holder and permanent resident of Nigeria.

have an undergraduate degree, be motivated, and have an interest in the proposed subject area

meet the English language requirement of the UK HEI

establish an engagement with the UK as a scholar, through personal and academic fulfilment

be willing to attend a networking event of all UK based GREAT scholars, to discuss experiences and capture perceptions of studying in the UK

be willing to maintain contact with the British Council and their HEI and act as an ambassador for the GREAT Scholarships

as an alumnus of the GREAT Scholarships, be willing occasionally to speak to potential candidates about their own experience of studying in the UK

BENEFIT:

£15,000.
