STAARS INDIVIDUAL RESEARCH PROPOSAL FELLOWSHIP

Dyson Cornell SC Johnson College of Business are now accepting applications for the 2024 cohort of  Structural Transformation of African Agriculture and Rural Spaces (STAARS) fellowship program, Only applications submitted through our online platform will be accepted. ELIGIBILITY:

The call is open to early career researchers, either Ph.D. students in their final year prior to degree completion or preferably those who completed their Ph.D. no earlier than 2018. Priority is given to researchers who have earned at least one degree from an African university, plan to work professionally in low- and lower-middle income countries, and have proposals relating to the research themes indicated above. Qualified female researchers are particularly encouraged to apply. STAARS welcomes applications from fresh Ph.D. graduates who can benefit from mentorship and additional training to become internationally respected and recognized researchers. Fellows are expected to complete the proposed project by submitting findings as a draft working paper by December 13, 2024, and proceeding to submit the paper to a peer-reviewed journal and/or conferences by June 30, 2025.

Researchers are expected to be familiar with and have demonstrated access to existing data sets and have a strong working knowledge of appropriate software, typically Stata and/or R, and an interest in econometric analysis of high-quality data sets. Knowledge of geo-referenced data and GIS software to manage them is an asset.Knowledge of Stata and/or R will be assessed at the finalist stage.

BENEFIT:

The selected applicants will receive funds to cover travel and participation in a three-week mentorship program at Cornell University or the World Bank (based on mentorship). The remainder of the research coordination and professional development training will be conducted virtually. Fellows are expected to commit significant time to the proposed research and capacity development activities.

A modest honorarium will be provided to each Fellow. No salary support is available; STAARS will not cover the scholar’s time allocated to this research. A letter of support from the candidate’s current advisor/supervisor/or manager is required, explicitly indicating that adequate work time will be made available for full participation in the program, if selected. The program cannot support costs for any new data collection.

NL SCHOLARSHIP ERASMUS UNIVERSITY FOR NON EU/EEA MASTERS PROGRAM

The NL Scholarship Erasmus University is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and Erasmus University Rotterdam. The scholarship is meant for international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who want to pursue a bachelor or master degree in the Netherlands.

ELIGIBILITY:

Must be a national of a country that is not part of the European Economic Area (EEA).

Must have never been enrolled before as a full degree student at an educational institution in the Netherlands. However, it is allowed that a student has followed a pre-master programme before at the Erasmus School of Economics and is going to pursue a master programme at the Erasmus School of Economics in the academic year 2024-2025.

Must be admitted to one of the following programmes*:

Master Accounting, Auditing and Control

Master Econometrics and Management Science

Master Economics and Business

Must have registered for one of the above-mentioned master programmes at Erasmus School of Economics in StudielinkOpens external, as well as having submitted the application documents in the EUR Application Portal before 1 February 2024 (current ESE pre-master students can contact us for their application procedure) in order to be considered for the scholarship.

Must have achieved excellent study results during their previous bachelor programme, and if applicable, during the pre-master programme. This means an average final result of at least grade 8.0 on a grading scale of 1-10.

Must be able to demonstrate the reason why this scholarship will enlarge their opportunity to study at Erasmus School of Economics by including a detailed financial statement, describing your financial situation and how you plan to finance your studies (i.e. cover your tuition fee payment), in case you will receive the NL Scholarship Erasmus University.

Must have completed the immigration application before 15 June. Completing the immigration procedure entails having submitted the immigration application documents, as well as having transferred the remaining tuition fee + remaining part of the living fee deposit + the IND handling fee before 15 June. For more information, please see the section ‘Amount and payment’ below and the website on immigration procedures for prospective students.

Must eventually be enrolled no later than 1 September of the academic year for which the scholarship is being requested. An admission offer is not required at the moment of application, however, only students with an admission offer will be considered for the NL Scholarship Erasmus University.

BENEFIT:

The scholarship amounts to € 10.000.
