2027 UNIVERSITY RECOMMENDED JAPANESE GOVERNMENT (MEXT) SCHOLARSHIP

Application Deadline: From October 15 to October 30, 2026, Japan Standard Time. The electronic application must be submitted within the application period.

LOCATION: Japan

The Graduate School of Science, The University of Tokyo accepts applications from international students for study in Japan who satisfy the following qualifications and conditions. Its aim is to foster human resources who will become bridges of friendship between the recipient’s country and Japan through study in Japan and who will contribute to the development of both countries and the wider world.

ELIGIBILITY:

Field: Science disciplines (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Earth Sciences, Biology, interdisciplinary research). Applicants must apply in a field related to their previous academic background.

Applicants must:

Be international students with outstanding academic records (GPA ≥ 2.30/3.0 scale).

Be born on or after April 2, 1992.

Hold the nationality of a country with diplomatic relations with Japan.

Apply for Master’s or Doctoral programmes at the Graduate School of Science, University of Tokyo.

Meet language proficiency requirements:

English: CEFR B2 or above (TOEFL iBT ≥ 72, IELTS ≥ 5.5).

Japanese: JLPT N2 or higher.

Be physically and mentally healthy.

Be able to arrive in Japan by October 1, 2027.

Duration of Study:

Master’s: 2 years (Oct 2027 – Sept 2029).

Doctoral: 3 years (Oct 2027 – Sept 2030).

Possible extension from Master’s to Doctoral upon outstanding performance.

Field of Study & Research Plan.

Recommendation letter from a dean or above.

Passport-type photo.

Official transcripts (with grading system explanation).

Proof of language proficiency.

Abstract of graduation thesis.

Graduation/expected graduation certificate.

Passport copy.

Apply for admission to the Graduate School of Science (Master’s/Doctoral programme).

Prepare and submit all required documents electronically via the designated form.

Application period: 15–30 October 2026 (JST).

Await nomination results (Feb–June 2027).

    BENEFIT:

    Monthly stipend:

    Master’s: ¥144,000/month.

    Doctoral: ¥145,000/month.

    Full tuition and enrollment fee exemption.

    Economy-class airfare to and from Japan.

    Guaranteed housing in the University of Tokyo International Lodge for the first year (rent approx. ¥50,000–70,000/month).

    UNIVERSITY COLLEGE CORK SCHOOL OF LAW PHD SCHOLARSHIP (FULLY FUNDED FOR EU AND NON-EU APPLICANTS)

    University College Cork are delighted to announce that applications are now open for a scholarship to pursue PhD study at the School of Law commencing in Autumn 2026.

    ELIGIBILITY:

    The scholarship is offered by the School of Law and is open to candidates in any field of Law. Candidates are encouraged in the first instance to develop a research proposal and to contact potential supervisors.

    The scholarship has specific application requirements. In particular, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

    Candidates must have a First-Class honours or high 2.1 honours degree (or equivalent) undergraduate degree in law.

    Candidates should have a Master’s degree in law or a cognate field and/or extensive and relevant professional experience demonstrative of capacity for independent research and writing.

    School of Law PhD Scholarship Requirements and Application Form 2026 

    BENEFIT:

    The scholarship is available to a candidate who will commence PhD studies in Autumn 2026. It covers tuition fees (fully funded for either EU or non-EU applicants) and a stipend of EUR 25,000 per year for a maximum of 4 years. Separately remunerated opportunities in lecturing or tutoring may be available during the PhD.
