ICAW POSTER/VIDEO CONTEST

Each year, the International Compost Awareness Week Committee holds a poster contest to pick a new design for the annual poster. There is always a new theme for ICAW, which is highlighted on the poster as well as the dates for ICAW. The theme for the 2024 ICAW is ” COMPOST… Nature’s Climate Champion! ” chosen by participating international partners incorporating the collective focus on one of the initiatives of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), which is “Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.”

ICAW Video Contest
Grade 4 – 8 (Age 10 – 13)

Offered to children and teens ages 10 – 13, the video contest asked for a 30 second video highlighting ICAW and the theme for this year, COMPOST…Nature’s Climate Champion! Should show something related to the benefits of compost use and/or organics recycling and the benefit it has to help with climate change. Such as: compost bin, vegetable or fruit garden, food waste and then compost. For more ideas on what you might want to include in your video, contact us at info@compostfoundation.org

ELIGIBILITY:

The poster contest is open to anyone from anywhere in the world age 14 or older. The video contest is for ages 10 – 13.

Video entry checklist:

Must have in the video International Compost Awareness Week, May 5 – 11, 2024 either written or said verbally

Must have COMPOST… Nature’s Climate Champion! written or said verbally

Video Length: No more than 30 seconds

BENEFIT:

Prize is $500 and the winning design is used as the official ICAW 2024 poster – sent to thousands of people.

The winner of the video contest will receive $100.

UBA NATIONAL ESSAY COMPETITION

Application Deadline: Friday, October 20th, 2023

LOCATION: Nigeria


The National Essay Competition, targeted at senior secondary students in Nigeria, is organised annually, as part of UBA Foundation’s education initiative which aims to promote the reading culture and encourage healthy and intellectual competition amongst secondary school students in Nigeria and across Africa

ELIGIBILITY:

Essay Topic: Will Artificial Intelligence (AI) take over Human Intelligence? What should students do to ensure AI doesn’t override but enhance their ability to learn through research?

Must be a Nigerian Senior Secondary school student

Must submit a passport photograph

Must submit a scanned copy of a means of identification (birth certificate, National ID, or passport)

Applicants must upload a handwritten essay (not more than 750 words) on the portal.

BENEFIT:

The first prize for the UBA National Essay Competition is a N5 million educational grant to any African University of their choice, while the second and third prizes are N3 million and N2.5 million in educational grants to African Universities, respectively.
