THRIVE PHILANTHROPY SEED GRANT

The Seed Grant funds initiatives outside USA that create just, plant-based food systems by reducing the consumption or demand of animals, overcoming industrial animal agriculture, or advocating for nutritious vegan diets.

ELIGIBILITY:

The Seed Grant is geared toward new or small-scale organizations, participants of the Thrive Africa Accelerator, one-time small-scale projects, or individuals without nonprofit status.

If you’re based in Africa, would like to apply, and haven’t received a grant from Thrive in the past, they invite you to first join the Thrive Africa Accelerator HERE. Within the accelerator you’ll join a cohort of like-minded advocates across Africa, Thrive will get to know more about your work, and you’ll then be invited to apply for a Seed Grant.

If you are based in Africa and have received a grant from us in the past, approximately one year ago or longer, you are also invited to apply.

Proposals that aim to create just, vegan food systems by reducing the global consumption of animals, reducing industrial animal agriculture, or for vegan advocacy.

Aligns with Thrive Philanthropy’s safespace policy.

Outside the United States and/or are not an international chapter of a US-based organization.

Applicants must consistently demonstrate a positive reputation with their stakeholders and community and can contribute to Thrive Philanthropy’s positive reputation.

Not a for-profit company.

They are currently prioritizing organizations with a budget less than $500,000 USD

It takes up to 8 weeks from the deadline for a response.  While they aim to fund many proposals, grants are limited, and unfortunately, not all who apply will be awarded.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: MEDIA SENTINEL FELLOWSHIPS IN WEST AFRICA

Code for Africa (CfA) is offering three Media Sentinel Fellowships to frontline grassroots researchers in BeninGuinea, and Mauritania. Candidates should have expertise in social media listening and analysis, and possess a good knowledge of social media cross-platform coordination and messaging on platforms such as Facebook, Telegram, WhatsApp, and X (formerly Twitter).

The 10-month part-time fellowships are part of a joint initiative between CfA and the European Partnership for Democracy (EPD) to strengthen information integrity by detecting, disrupting, and deplatforming malign actors in Africa. 

ELIGIBILITY:

The fellowships will enable individuals to use their social media and analytics skills in conjunction with CfA’s watchlists and lexicons, for proactive pre-grouping and communication of early warning signals for early detection of toxic online content.

Therefore, applicants must meet the following criteria: 

You must be non-partisan, without any link to government agencies, paramilitary organisations, political parties, state-affiliated media, or other bodies that might create the perception of partisanship in either national or local politics. 

You must be fluent in English or French. 

You must have access to a reliable personal laptop or computer with stable internet connectivity to participate in programme activities, online classes, and mentorship sessions.

You must demonstrate an understanding of using social media platforms such as Facebook, Signal, Telegram, WhatsApp, and X. 

You must be available for weekly one-hour virtual meetings.

The fellowship package will consist of:

Stipend: Fellows will receive a competitive monthly stipend depending on their influence as macro or nano influencers and experience in similar previous projects. 

Training and mentoring: CfA will provide the fellows with advanced training and mentoring in traditional and social media monitoring.
