ISS DAKAR: JUNIOR FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME, 2025–2026

LOCATION: Senegal

The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) and the Bosch Foundation are empowering West Africa’s next generation of policy leaders through a flagship program on ‘Gender, human security, and geopolitics.’ Exceptional young West Africans (especially women) are invited to apply for the first intake of four fellows.

ELIGIBILITY:

As a fellow, you will spend 10 months working with leading African experts in Dakar to understand the governance challenges preventing West Africa from reaching its full potential. You will gain rare access to top decision-makers and help craft policy solutions. Fellows have a unique opportunity to build connections that unlock various careers in human security policymaking and practice.

Be a citizen of any West African country

Be under 30 years of age

Hold a Master’s degree in international relations, political science, law, anthropology, sociology, or related fields

Have a strong interest in security, gender, democracy, governance, or geopolitics

Be fluent in English or French; additional West African languages are a plus

Be a confident communicator, self-motivated, and eager to grow in a dynamic team

SWISS GOVERNMENT RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

Application Opens: 4 August 2025; Deadline: 28 November 2025

LOCATION: Switzerland

The scholarship enables selected applicants to carry out a one-year research project as part of their doctoral studies at a Swiss higher education institution or recognized research institute. Valid only for full-time research in Switzerland.

ELIGIBILITY:

Highly qualified early-career researchers from all academic fields, including young medical doctors.

Priority will be given to individuals who have not previously studied or conducted research in Switzerland (see eligibility criteria for exceptions).

Master’s degree or equivalent completed by 31 July 2026 (for ETH Zurich: 30 June 2026).

Date of birth after 31 December 1990.

Detailed research plan with a timeline specifying key milestones and activities.

Applicants must have a letter of support from an academic supervisor in Switzerland (including a short CV).

If the applicant already resides in Switzerland, the date of entry must not be earlier than 1 August 2025 (submit a copy of the registration confirmation or residence permit).

Originality and methodological quality of the project

Quality of supervision and potential for future collaboration

Duration: Maximum of 12 months

No extensions possible

Start date: 1 September 2026

BENEFIT:

CHF 1,920 per month to cover basic living expenses for one person. This scholarship is not a salary
