The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) is a regional non-governmental organisation dedicated to enhancing the capacities of civil society organisations in West Africa toward greater sustainability and operational and development effectiveness. WACSI is therefore looking for an intern interested in enhancing his/her civic consciousness and developing his/her professional capacity. The intern will be embedded in WACSI’s core areas of work and will be responsible for providing the necessary support in the planning and implementation of the Institute’s activities in WACSI Node Nigeria.
ELIGIBILITY:
Applicants must have a minimum of a first degree in international affairs, political science, public policy, law, development studies, or related fields. Applicants should also show an interest in civil society and nonprofit organization management.
Responsibilities:
Conduct desktop research on policy and legislative issues
Assist in gathering information and writing reports for policy meetings
Assist in policy meetings and workshop preparation
Assist in the development of policy advocacy training tool
Support other administrative tasks
Preference will be given to applicants with a high proficiency in English.
The successful intern will spend a substantial part of her/his internship at the WACSI office in Abuja, Nigeria.

You hold the nationality of a country that is eligible to receive Official Development Assistance from the OECD, and meet the requirements for obtaining an entry visa and residence permit for the Netherlands.

If you already have a residence permit for another Schengen country , you can only apply if this residence permit is still valid until at least 2 September 2026. If your residence permit expires before 2 September 2026 you can only apply for the Scholarship from your home country via a MVV visa application. You do not have a dual nationality from any country in the European Economic Area or any other country not included in the list.
You have applied for admission to the Global Studies bachelor’s programme at the UM for the 2026-2027 academic year
You meet the specific admission requirements of the UM bachelor programme to which you have applied.
You do not have a diploma from a higher education institution; you are not eligible for a scholarship if you have completed a degree programme equivalent to a bachelor degree.
You are not older than 35 years of age on 1 September 2026
You agree to become an active Global Studies and UM ambassador during and after your studies, by committing to share your experiences during at least one (information) session for students and/or other stakeholders

Please note that a mandatory part of the Scholarship is a room that will be allocated to you. Accepting the Scholarship means, you accept the room. The accommodation provided to Scholarship students is not suitable for partners/spouses and/or children. Preferences with regard to the accommodation f.e. religious beliefs will be taken into account. Refusing the room means your Scholarship will be cancelled.
The amount of € 15,925 for living expenses (€ 1,225 per month) covers the following expenses and can be broken down as follows (amounts are subject to change):
