CONCRETE IN LIFE 2025/26 – GLOBAL PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

Welcome to the GCCA’s 7th annual Concrete in Life photography competition.

Entering the competition is simple. Just upload a photo of concrete using the hashtag #ConcreteInLife2526, the hashtag of the category you are entering, and the hashtag of the country you took the photo in (full entry details below).

ELIGIBILITY:

There are 4 categories in this competition:

Urban design and use: #UrbanConcrete—images of the city landscapes and buildings around us, both well-known and hidden away

Concrete Infrastructure: #ConcreteInfrastructure—photographs of our infrastructure, in our cities and rural areas, above and below ground.

Concrete in Daily Life: #ConcreteInDailyLife—the human side of concrete and how it’s used and interacted with daily.

Beauty and Design: #ConcreteBeautyAndDesign—showcasing beautiful uses of concrete in the world around us—such as stunningly designed buildings, sculptures or landmarks.

To enter:

Take a photo of concrete in your life and upload it to Instagram or X. Include the following information:

#ConcreteInLife2526

The hashtag # of the category you are entering—see above (one per photo)

The hashtag # of the country where you took the photo

You can also email us your entry concreteinlife@gccassociation.org

You can enter as many photos as you like, but each one can only be considered for one category.

Remember to make your photo public on Instagram or we won’t be able to view your photos.

There are no amateur or professional categories.

Entries will be judged by our judging panel—our shortlist will be revealed later this year, and winners will be announced in early 2026.

They will also be running the People’s Choice category, where the public will vote for their favourite photo from our shortlist.

MCDONNELL INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARS ACADEMY WASHU GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

The McDonnell International Scholars Academy at WashU is an esteemed fellowship program that unites exceptional graduate students from across the globe. We are now accepting applications through January 31, 2026.

ELIGIBILITY:

To qualify to apply for the McDonnell International Scholars Academy fellowship program:

Applicants must submit an application to an eligible WashU doctoral or master’s degree program. For most programs, applicants can submit their applications to both the desired graduate program and the McDonnell Academy through the WashU graduate application portal. Application to the McDonnell Academy is separate from and in addition to an application to a graduate degree program at Washington University in St. Louis.

Applicants must have earned or plan to earn a bachelor’s degree or higher before the end of the 2025-2026 academic year (July 2026). This fellowship is not available for undergraduate studies.

Applicants from all domestic and international institutions are welcome to apply! Priority is given to international graduate candidates who are graduates of one of the 30+ partner universities.

To complete your application, you must submit the following materials:

Personal essay – Write an essay, 750 words or less, explaining why you want to be a McDonnell Scholar and how the McDonnell Academy fellowship will impact your goals and career aspirations. 

Short video—Record a two-minute video using the provided prompts to help us get to know you beyond your academic pursuits.
