AAUW’S INTERNATIONAL PROJECT GRANTS

AAUW’s International Project Grants foster lasting impact by supporting International Fellowship alumnae who return to their home countries to lead community-based initiatives. These grants empower alumnae to apply their academic expertise and leadership skills to projects that advance gender equity and improve the lives of women and girls. 

ELIGIBILITY:

Citizenship & Immigration Status: Grant recipients must be non-U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

International Project Grants are awarded exclusively to individuals who:

Identify as a woman

Are an AAUW International Fellowship alumna who has successfully completed the academic program for which they received a fellowship and all related reporting requirements by June 30th of the application year

Applicants are expected to reside in and implement their project within their home country for the duration of the grant period.

Exception for Displacement: Applicants who are residing outside their home country due to conflict, political instability, or humanitarian circumstances may be permitted to implement their project in their current country of residence. In such cases, applicants must demonstrate a meaningful connection to the host community and clearly articulate how the project addresses local needs. 

Are the primary project director, with control over all programmatic, budgetary, administrative, and editorial decisions.

Are leading a project that has a direct positive impact for women and girls in their community.

AAUW INTERNATIONAL POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

AAUW’s International Postdoctoral Research Fellowships promote education and equity for women by investing in international applicants who will be pursuing postdoctoral research in the U.S., with the intention of applying their expertise, professional skills, and leadership in the context of their home countries. 

ELIGIBILITY:

Citizenship & Immigration Status: Fellowship recipients must be non-U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Applicants must identify as a woman.

Applicants must be admitted to their first postdoctoral research experience by the application deadline.

Applicants must begin their program on or before September 1, 2026, and complete it on or after May 30, 2027.

Applicants must hold an academic or professional doctoral degree (earned in the U.S. or abroad) with a minimum CGPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale at the time of application. Examples of academic and professional doctoral degrees include but are not limited to D.B.A., Ed.D., J.D., M.D., or Ph.D.

Applicants must pursue their research in the U.S. on a full-time basis at an institution accredited by the U.S. Department of Education.

Applicants must reside in the U.S. or the country of their studies for the duration of the fellowship period.

Applicants intending to do their postdoctoral research in another country other than their own or the U.S. must be members of Graduate Women International and pursue their research project at an international institution recognized as eligible to participate in U.S. federal student aid programs, as listed on the Federal Student Aid Participating Schools list Federal Student Aid Participating Schools list.(Foreign branches of U.S. institution are considered outside of the U.S.)

BENEFIT:

International Postdoctoral Research Fellowships carry a stipend of $50,000. Stipends are payable to fellows only and are disbursed in two equal payments at the beginning and the midpoint of the fellowship term.
