12TH INTERNATIONAL CVCE PHOTO CONTEST

LOCATION: Spain

CVCEPHOTO is the International Mountain Activity Photo Contest organized by Club Vasco de Camping Elkartea, a mountaineering club from San Sebastian. The participants authorize CVCEPHOTO the rights to the reproduction of the submitted works for expositions, catalog printings, web publishing, and any other media outlet that the CVCE considers to be of interest to promote the contest.

ELIGIBILITY:

The contest is open to all amateur or professional photographers around the world. Participation is free. It’s understood that underage participants have parent or tutor authorization to participate. If they should win the contest, such authorization will be required.

Categories: “MOUNTAIN ACTIVITY”: Any image related to sport activities (non-motorized) that take place on mountains. (For instance: alpinism, climbing, ski, trekking, speleology, paragliding …)

Each participant may submit a maximum of 3 photographs. There won’t be accepted any photos previously submitted to this contest. Only pictures taken by digital cameras are accepted.

The RAW digital format of the submitted images must be available. Participants must warrant that the submitted photographs are an original work created solely by the entrant and that he or she owns the copyright of the work that is being presented.

CVCEPHOTO takes as granted that the participant has the authorization and/or the permission of the persons that appear in the photographs submitted to the contest.

Works must be submitted in JPEG format and must be at least 1,600 pixels wide, converted to sRGB color space with the profile being embedded in the file. All digital images must be 2 megabytes or smaller. Works must not include frames or footers. Works must be submitted exclusively through the ENTRY FORM.

CVCEPHOTO will contact participants through the email they provide in this entry form.

PH.D. GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP: THERMAL IMAGERY-BASED ANALYSES OF FISH HABITAT—UNIVERSITY OF MAINE, ORONO

The University of Maine (Orono, Maine) is pleased to offer a Ph.D. Graduate Assistantship: Thermal imagery-based analyses of fish habitat—University of Maine, Orono. The incumbent will develop a research project aimed at understanding the thermal environments experienced by cold-water species such as Atlantic salmon and brook trout in Maine.

ELIGIBILITY:

Qualifications: M.S. in biology, ecology, GIS, or similar; quantitative skills; interest in landscape and aquatic science; and excellent work ethics. Must have a desire to work in a collaborative and supportive graduate student community.  A GPA of 3.2+ is desired. 

Responsibilities: The incumbent will develop a research project aimed at understanding the thermal environments experienced by cold-water species such as Atlantic salmon and brook trout in Maine.  This may include areas of significant restoration importance, such as the Piscataquis River, and other regions with dams. There will be significant flexibility in developing study questions, and approaches using thermal imagery. Work may be collaboratively developed with national, international, and tribal researchers. Experience in field ecology, GIS and database management is desirable—a willingness to learn is a necessity. Good communication skills are essential.  The incumbent will work with many partners (State of Maine, federal, tribal and NGOs), and be responsible for frequent reporting. The student will be advised by both Drs. Christina Murphy and Joe Zydlewski.  One to two semesters of TA support are anticipated. BENEFIT:
