MINDS MASTER’S SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME FOR LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

MINDS ’offers scholarships to Africans who wish to pursue postgraduate studies within Africa, outside of their own countries. Through tailored leadership development activities, the MINDS Scholarship Programme aims to nurture leaders who have a continental development mindset—leaders who will facilitate greater cohesion and cooperation between African countries. Individuals with a Pan-African outlook, demonstrated leadership ability and an excellent academic record who wish to study on the African continent, outside their home country are invited to apply for the scholarships.

ELIGIBILITY:

MINDS Scholarships are applicable to full-time studies of a one- or two-year Honors or Master’s degree at one of the MINDS preferred institutions (listed below). MINDS does not prescribe the course to be studied.

MINDS Scholarships are awarded to meritorious applicants following a rigorous selection process. To be considered for a MINDS Scholarship, you must:

Be a national of an African country, residing in any African country

Have been formally accepted by one or more MINDS preferred institution(s) outside of your country of citizenship and/or residency

Have been formally accepted by one or more MINDS preferred institution(s) to pursue postgraduate studies within the following year

Have obtained at least 70% in each subject/course in the last two completed years of study

Produce evidence of demonstrated leadership abilities or potential guided by the questions/requirements set out in the application form

Submit a complete online application form (see below) with the required supporting documentation.

To be eligible to receive a MINDS Scholarship, an applicant must have been accepted to study at one of the following institutions:

The Scholarship will cover some or all of the expenses below, depending on whether a partial or full scholarship is awarded:

Accommodation and meals

One return ticket per duration of studies

A fixed stipend.

RELX ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGE

Each year the RELX Environmental Challenge is awarded to projects that best demonstrate how they can provide sustainable access to safe water or sanitation. Projects must have clear practical applicability, address identified needs, and advance related issues such as health, education, or human rights.

ELIGIBILITY:

No purchase or payment of any kind is necessary to enter or win the challenge.

The Challenge is open only to applicants 21 years of age or over at their time of entry with access to the internet and an email account during the Challenge Period (defined below) and subsequent Prize Award Period

Proof of residency and age may be required. Applicants may participate as (i) individuals, (ii) teams of individuals, or (iii) individually or in teams on behalf of an organisation, i.e. an educational or not-for-profit institution or a corporation (the latter category, collectively “Organisations”).

The RELX Environmental Challenge is open to individuals or organisations operating in the not-for-profit and for-profit sectors. Projects must advance sustainable access to safe water where it is presently at risk and/or access to improved sanitation, and include the following criteria:

Be replicable, scalable and sustainable. and set a benchmark for innovation

Have practical applicability

Address non-discrimination/equity of access

Involve and impact a range of stakeholders

Have local/community-level engagement

These are the criteria against which projects will be assessed. Early-stage projects are preferred.

BENEFIT:

There is a $50,000 prize for the first-place entry and a $25,000 prize for the second-place entry. The winners also receive free access for one year to ScienceDirect, our Scientific, Technical & Medical business’ database of full-text scientific information, including almost 250,000 articles since 2000 in environmental sciences.
