Black-and-white photography celebrates the world of shadows, light and moody darkness. B&W is dramatic, iconic and timeless. It is the aesthetic choice of many photographers. Stripped of color, the story lies in the details, contrasts, and the raw emotion it captures.

ELIGIBILITY:

To discover remarkable B&W photographers from all cultures and all experience levels, and connect them with global audiences and career-changing opportunities — including an exhibition in New York during The Photography Show 2024. Are you ready for the world stage? Read on for information about award benefits, jurors and our free entry option for single image submissions.

Open to all types of B&W photography: fine art, experimental, fiction, documentary, visual storytelling, portraits, landscapes, staged/constructed, street, mixed media, alternative processes, conceptual.

Limited to one free entry per person. $10 for each additional photo. 5 images are $35.

MASTERCARD FOUNDATION SCHOLARS PROGRAMAT THE UNIVERSITY OF THE WESTERN CAPE

The University of the Western Cape invites applications for a limited number of undergraduate and master’s degree scholarships from qualifying candidates from South Africa and the African continent who are prepared to register for full-time study in 2024. Click here to download the call for applications.

ELIGIBILITY:

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at UWC supports academically talented youth from South Africa and other parts of the African continent. 

Undergraduate and Masters programs (refer to the official website for eligible field of study)

For Masters:

Be no older than 30 years for the master’s degree studies;

Meet the University’s minimum admissions requirements (for program/discipline-specific information, visit http://www.uwc.ac.za) and must have applied for academic admission to the University for 2024;

Be prepared to begin their first year of registration for full-time master’s degree study in January 2024;

Provide evidence that access to university studies is impeded by social and economic barriers.

For Undergraduate:

Be no older than 26 years for the undergraduate studies;

Meet the University’s minimum admissions requirements (for program/discipline-specific information, visit http://www.uwc.ac.za) and must have applied for academic admission to the University for 2024;

Be prepared to register for full-time undergraduate study in January 2024;

Provide evidence that access to university studies is impeded by social and economic barriers.

BENEFIT:

The Scholars Program at UWC will provide fully-funded opportunities for young scholars to study for i) undergraduate qualifications or ii) master’s degree qualifications.
