CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR THE MASTERCARD FOUNDATION SCHOLARS PROGRAM AT USIU-AFRICA

LOCATION: Nairobi, Kenya

United States International University-Africa (USIU-Africa) has partnered with the Mastercard Foundation in its global Scholars Program. This initiative will offer academically talented youth from Africa facing financial, gender, displacement, or disability constraints an opportunity to access world class university education.

The scholarship targets African youth who are either, Young Women, Refugees/ displaced Youth, Persons with Disability and Young Men with the following qualities;

Academic talent

Commitment to giving back to their communities

Leadership potential

ELIGIBILITY:

Be 29 years and below at the time of application.

Meet the minimum university entry grade of a C+ and above or its equivalent as set by the Kenya Commission for University Education. Applicants interested in courses in the school of Pharmacy and Health Sciences must have a mean grade of B- or its equivalent and at least a C+ or B- in the cluster subjects of English, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry. International applicants must meet the equivalent.

Must be interested in any of the approved 13 undergraduate degree programs for the Scholars Program at USIU-Africa

BENEFIT:

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars at USIU-Africa will receive holistic support which includes:

Tuition and functional fees;

Laptops, books, and other learning materials;

Reasonable accommodation and meals;

Medical insurance;

Stipend;

Transport to and from home;

Access to leadership training;

Access to entrepreneurial training;

Psycho-social support, career counseling, and mentorship;

Disability needs will be reasonably catered for.

COMMONWEALTH SECRETARY-GENERAL’S INNOVATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AWARDS

Application Deadline: 23:59 GMT on 15 October 2023. 

LOCATION: Kenya

Citizens and organisations from the 56 Commonwealth countries can now submit entries for the Secretary-General’s Innovation for Sustainable Development Awards to win prestigious titles and cash prizes. The awards recognise ground-breaking innovations from Commonwealth countries that contribute to one or more of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

ELIGIBILITY:

Women and young people, who are transforming their communities through innovative solutions, are especially encouraged to apply.

An independent jury will judge the entries and select 15 winners – three from each Commonwealth region – across five categories. Each category is structured around the five pillars of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnership.

BENEFIT:

Each winner will receive a trophy, a certificate of recognition and a cash prize of £3,000 at an award ceremony, to be held during the inaugural Commonwealth Edition of Kenya Innovation Week 2023 in Nairobi on 27 November.
