UNIVERSITY OF LUXEMBOURG – 4 PHD POSITIONS IN MATHEMATICS

LOCATION: Luxembourg

The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.

4 PhD positions, co-financed by a grant from the Luxembourg National Research Fund. Research areas of the program and the PhD advisors currently recruiting:

Computational number theory and cryptographic applications

Jean-Sébastien Coron (DCS)

Modelling and computational experiments in geometry

Karin Melnick (DMATH)

Jean-Marc Schlenker (DMATH)

Algebraic geometry, representation theory and logic

Karin Melnick (DMATH) and Pieter Belmans (Utrecht University)

The successful candidates will be expected to conduct research under the guidance of professors (names and areas of expertise listed above), with the aim of obtaining a PhD in mathematics. They will also be expected to contribute to the department’s many activities, including seminars, teaching, outreach and various other research related events.

ELIGIBILITY:

Your profile:

Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in mathematics or mathematical aspects of Computer science, with very good results. (The degree must be obtained before the beginning of the contract but you can apply before)

Good command of written and spoken English

Strong dedication to doing mathematics at a research level

Interest in using computational methods for mathematical investigations. Some familiarity with programming will be considered a plus

In return you will get:

Funding for travel to conference, summer or winter schools, and other scientific events outside Luxembourg

The ATOZ Foundation was set up under the aegis of the Fondation de Luxembourg to support educational projects, as it believes that education is the key to personal accomplishment, and that research and development are essential for personal and societal progress.

ELIGIBILITY:

Applicants are eligible for the scholarship programme if they are:  

Selected as a student on the Master in European and International Tax Law

Committed to undertaking full-time studies in the Master in European and International Tax Law 

Applicants are invited by the University of Luxembourg to include in their application to the Master in European and International Tax:

a cover letter expressing their interest in obtaining the scholarship, outlining their reasons for pursuing a career in taxation and their financial situation.
