AAUW INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIPS (MASTER’S AND DOCTORATE DEGREES)

AAUW’s International Fellowships promote education and equity for women by investing in international applicants who will be pursuing postgraduate studies or research in the U.S., with the intention of applying their expertise, professional skills, and leadership in the context of their home countries.

ELIGIBILITY:

Applicants must be or identify as a woman.

Applicants must be admitted or enrolled in their first master’s or an academic or professional doctorate degree at the time of application. Examples of master’s degrees include but are not limited to M.A., M.S., M.B.A., M.F.A., L.L.M., M.Arch. Examples of academic and professional doctorate degrees include but are not limited to D.B.A., Ed.D., J.D., M.D., or Ph.D.

Applicants must begin their program on or before September 1, 2026, and complete it on or after April 30, 2027.

Applicants must possess at least one academic degree (earned in the U.S. or abroad) that is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree. While applicants may hold multiple degrees, they must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale for the highest degree earned. Applicants may apply for only one degree type (either a Master’s or Doctoral program) and in a single specific field (e.g., Business, History, Physics, etc.). In the case of applicants pursuing a dual degree, they must select one of the fields.

Applicants must pursue their study in the U.S. on a full-time basis at an institution accredited by the U.S. Department of Education.

Applicants must reside in the U.S. or country of their research for the duration of the fellowship period.

Applicants intending to study in another country other than their own or the U.S. must be members of Graduate Women International and pursue study at an international institution recognized as eligible to participate in U.S. federal student aid programs, as listed on the Federal Student Aid Participating Schools list. (Foreign branches of U.S. institutions are considered outside of the U.S.)

Applicants interested in pursuing postdoctoral research are encouraged to consider AAUW’s International Postdoctoral Research Fellowships.

BENEFIT:

International Fellowships carry a stipend of $20,000 for a master’s degree and $25,000 for a doctorate degree. Stipends are payable to fellows only and are disbursed in two equal payments at the beginning and the midpoint of the fellowship term.

HEINRICH BOLL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS FOR GRADUATE & PHD STUDY IN GERMANY

LOCATION: Germany

The Heinrich Böll Foundation’s scholarship program awards study and doctoral scholarships to German and international students and doctoral candidates. The scholarship department of the Heinrich Böll Foundation grants scholarships to graduates, and doctoral students from outside Germany. An application for a scholarship for an undergraduate degree is not possible.

ELIGIBILITY:

Graduate: Students from Germany (Germans and “Bildungsinländer*innen,” i.e., applicants who have obtained their higher education entrance qualification in Germany)

For the first degree (Bachelor, Diploma, State Examination, etc.): Application is possible before the first semester up to and including the third semester.

For a Master’s program, preferably in Germany: Applications must be submitted six months before the start of the program.

Refugees

Application for funding for a first degree (e.g. Bachelor) or a further degree (Master, Diploma or State Examination etc.) is possible at any time, regardless of the semester of study

International students (“Austrian students”, i.e. applicants who have obtained their university entrance qualification abroad)

For a master’s degree program or a Diploma/State Examination degree program in Germany (after having already completed the intermediate examination, the Physikum, etc.): Applications are possible before beginning the master’s program or the main course. We particularly encourage international students who completed their first degree in their home country to apply .

Students from all disciplines can apply for full-time study at a state-recognized university.

The online application portal opens on July 15, 2025, and closes on September 1, 2025.

The certificate of enrollment, or at least a confirmation of university admission, must be submitted with the application if possible or must be presented at the latest immediately before the selection interview in the 3rd selection stage.

Space is limited. Please limit your submission to the designated section, which must be legible on paper. This also applies to the expert opinions.
Please do not wait until the last day to submit your application to avoid overloading the system. You can submit your application as soon as your documents are complete.

Once you complete your application in the application portal, you will immediately receive a confirmation email. You will no longer be able to log in to the portal afterward.

Dissertation topics related to the main research areas of the Heinrich Böll Foundation have priority.

The Heinrich Böll Foundation supports young people through scholarship funding (generally including a maintenance grant, study and research grant, foreign study grant, mobility allowance, family allowance, and other categories). In addition, we promote the scholarship recipients in their personal development, help them to gain cross-disciplinary qualifications and enhance their key competences, encourage political debate and attention to social issues, and nurture interdisciplinary dialogue.
