HEINRICH BÖLL STIFTUNG SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION FOR INTERNATIONAL GRADUATES AND DOCTORAL STUDENTS

Application Deadline: Spring 2026: January 15, 2026, to March 1, 2026

LOCATION: Germany

The scholarship department of the Heinrich Böll Foundation grants scholarships to graduates and doctoral students from outside Germany. International applicants have to prove their proficiency in German. Good or very good knowledge of the German language is required (at least B2 level or DSH1).

ELIGIBILITY:

For a Master’s degree or for a main course of study leading to a Diploma/State Examination in Germany (after having already passed the intermediate examination, preliminary medical examination, etc.).
Applications are possible before the start of the Master’s program or the main course of study. We particularly encourage international students who completed  their first degree in their home country to apply.
Priority will be given to applicants from DAC countries who are still residing in their home country at the time of application.

Doctoral candidates from Germany (Germans, students with German educational qualifications) for doctoral studies in Germany or in other EU countries (all subjects).

International doctoral candidates (from the EU or outside the EU, refugees) are invited to apply for doctoral positions in Germany (all disciplines).
We particularly encourage international doctoral candidates who completed their undergraduate studies in their home country to apply.  
Priority will be given to applicants from DAC countries who are still residing in their home country at the time of application.

Doctoral candidates from Germany or abroad for the “Research Cluster Socio-Ecological Transformation” (all subjects).

Dissertation topics related to the work priorities of the Heinrich Böll Foundation will be given priority.

BENEFIT:

Master’s Scholarship: €992 per month plus various individual allowances, possibly health insurance or similar

For scholarship-holders only: Funding is available for limited periods spent abroad for purpose of study

Doctoral Scholarship: €1400 per month, plus € 100  mobility allowance per month, plus various individual allowances

BOURNEMOUTH UNIVERSITY SPORT SCHOLARSHIP

LOCATION: United Kingdom

The BU Sport Scholarship is available to high-level sporting athletes coming to study at either the undergraduate or postgraduate level at BU. The scholarship is designed to provide funding you may need to develop your sporting abilities and take them to the next level.

ELIGIBILITY:

For courses starting in September 2026 and January 2027. Scholarships cannot be deferred.

Any applicant for a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate course delivered at BU

Be a high-performing sportsperson and have the desire to continue to develop in the sporting arena, as well as academically.

You must demonstrate excellence in your chosen sport and be part of a Regional, National and/or International squad and compete at that level. Student athletes receiving a scholarship will ideally represent BU in the BUCS programme (league and individual), as well as themselves and/or their club at the regional, national, or international level. Individual student athletes need to be competitive with the top performers within the BUCS programme.

If you are awarded a scholarship, you will need to meet with the High-Performance Team to assess how the funds will help you throughout the year, and it will be your responsibility to commit to the following:

Attend all expected academic activities (Dual Career Support Provided)

Attend 75% of sport-specific training sessions

Attend 85% S&C sessions 

Engage with all support services offered 

Represent BU in sporting competitions where possible 

Provide stories of your performance activities.

As part of your application for a BU Sport Scholarship, you will have to attend our trial process and be assessed by our coaches and to help with this, please ensure your application is supported by a reference from a High-Performance Coach or National Governing Body coach. If you are applying for a sport that sits outside our performance BUCS programme, you will need to ensure that two references are sent alongside your application and demonstrate how you will maintain your level of training. 

BENEFIT:

You can apply for up to £5,000 of finances to put towards your sporting development, and it could be any of the following:  coaching, equipment, competition entry fees, travel expenses, and/or other support services.
