MTN SCHOLARSHIPS PROGRAM

MTN Foundation in 2010, established the MTN Scholarships Program, an annual award that recognizes and rewards eligible high performing students in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions in 3 categories:

MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (MTN STS)

MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (MTN SBS)

Top 10 UTME Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY:

MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (MTN STS): since 2010, has been open to eligible 300 level students studying Science & Technology-related courses, in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education). 300 students are awarded scholarships until graduation upon meeting grade requirements. MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS) and MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS) is open to Nigerian students in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institution (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education). Starting in 2024, the number of blind students to receive scholarships has increased from 60 to 100.

MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (MTN SBS):since 2012 has been targeted at eligible 200 and 300 level blind students studying any course in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education). The number of blind scholarships offered is 100. 

Top 10 UTME Scholarship: since 2020, the top 10 scoring candidates of UTME as announced by JAMB, automatically qualify for the top 10 UTME scholarship. The candidates are awarded scholarships from their 100 level through to graduation upon meeting grade requirements.

The MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS):

STEM Students in Public Universities, and Colleges of Education must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) score of 3.0/4 or 3.5/5 (second class upper credit)

STEM Students in Public Polytechnics must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0 (upper credit) from the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) Program and must have secured admission into the Higher National Diploma (HND) Program.

Direct Entry level STEM students must have a minimum CGPA of 3.0 (upper credit) from the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) program and must have secured admission into 300 level/3rd year in a Public University.

MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS):

Blind Students in the Universities or Colleges of Education must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.5

Blind Students in Public Polytechnics must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0 from the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) Program and must have secured admission into the Higher National Diploma (HND) Program.

BENEFIT:

The MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS): The scholarship award amount is N300,000.00. 300 students are awarded scholarships until graduation upon meeting grade requirements.

MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS): The annual award amount is N300,000 and will be awarded until graduation if grade requirements are met.

Top 10 UTME Scholarship: the annual award amount is N300,000. The Top 10 UTME Scholarship is awarded irrespective of the successful candidates’ preferred course of study or Tertiary Institution – Public or Private in Nigeria

CHIZI WIGWE PRIZE FOR AFRICAN FUTURISM

The 1952 Africa Foundation, in partnership with the HOW Foundation, is pleased to announce the inaugural Chizi Wigwe Prize for African Futurism. This prestigious prize seeks to empower African artists and creatives to envision a brighter future for the continent through innovative artistic expressions.

African Futurism, characterized by its intersection of cultural heritage, technology, and imagination, serves as the thematic foundation for this prize. Artists are invited to explore the following questions through their work:

What will African societies look like in 2100?

How will technology shape cultural traditions, art, and innovation on the continent?

What role will Africa play in addressing global challenges and advancing humanity?

ELIGIBILITY:

Open to artists and creatives across Africa, aged 18-45.

Applicants must submit an original entry aligned with the theme “Africa in 2100.”

All artistic disciplines and mediums are welcome.

Interested artists are requested to submit the following materials and fill this form:

Project Proposal: A detailed outline of the proposed artistic project, demonstrating its relevance to African Futurism and the theme “Africa in 2100.”

Portfolio: A curated selection of the artist’s previous work showcasing their artistic vision and skill.

Curriculum Vitae/Resume: A comprehensive overview of the artist’s experience and accomplishments.

Reference Letter: A letter of recommendation from an art director or senior management of an art or cultural institution, attesting to the artist’s artistic merit and potential.

Statement of Purpose: A concise statement (no more than one page) articulating the artist’s artistic goals and how the Chizi Wigwe Prize will contribute to their realization.

BENEFIT:

The Chizi Wigwe Prize is a $15,000 award granted to an exceptional artist whose work embodies the spirit of African Futurism and aligns with the theme “Africa in 2100.”
