MCCAIN GLOBAL LEADERS PROGRAM

The McCain Global Leaders Program supports character-driven leaders from around the world who embody Senator John McCain’s legacy of serving a cause greater than oneself.  Structured as a 12-month fellowship and immersive learning experience, each cohort will include a diverse group of 25 leaders from around the world who are working “in the arena” to advance democracy, human rights, and freedom. The program is designed to advance each Leader’s personal and professional leadership journey and impact by providing training, resources, and access to highly relevant regional and global networks with the goal of preparing today’s leaders to meet tomorrow’s challenges.

ELIGIBILITY:

Applicants should be mid to senior- career professionals, possess working proficiency in English, and actively work on the focus issue areas of the program.  Aspiring McCain Global Leaders (MGLs) should work in a leadership role in their field, and actively be “in the arena” striving to enact change in their home communities.  Applicants should be committed to serving a cause greater than oneself and should be invested in full participation in virtual engagements, in-person programs and post program alumni activities. There is no minimum educational requirement.

Participants should have at least 5 years or more of career experience. There is no specific age requirement, however, typical MGLs range from 25 to 45 years old. Past participants have come from a variety of sectors.  They have included members of parliament, government ministers, journalists, medical doctors, activists, NGO leaders or managers or academics.

BENEFIT:

Participants will receive a stipend meant to cover incidental expenses incurred throughout the program. However the direct costs of participation in the program (economy class travel, hotels, visas) will be fully covered by the McCain Institute.  There will be no cost of participation other than the time commitment that MGLs make to participate in programming.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR THE INITIATIVE FOR TRANSITIONAL JUSTICE IN AFRICA

The Africa Transitional Justice Legacy Fund (ATJLF) is pleased to announce this call to elicit proposals from civil society organizations, community-based and victim-led groups, working to advance truth, justice and reconciliation in countries emerging from conflict across Africa. This call is part of a European Union and African Union joint initiative, the Initiative for Transitional Justice in Africa (ITJA), a project launched in October 2023 and focused on the implementation of innovative transitional justice initiatives that are guided by principles and provisions of the Africa Transitional Justice Policy Framework (AUTJP) and its accompanying roadmap.

ELIGIBILITY:

Organizations will be eligible if they satisfy the following criteria:

A Registered civil society organization or community-based group operating in any of the priority African countries in this call;

Demonstrated experience in transitional justice, human rights, or related fields. · Have ongoing projects/Initiatives addressing specific needs within the scope of the call.

Must have at least three (3) staff members (including the Founder/Director)

Must have a functional bank account (corporate) in the country of operation

Must have a clearly defined operational structure – accounting processes and procedures, management structure, evidence of monthly/quarterly/semi-annual or annual financial accounting

Must be known or embedded in communities that have experienced atrocities or human rights violations and have strong connections and networks with victims, survivors and the community in which they operate.

Must already be working on human rights and transitional justice issues in the identified communities in the countries of focus

BENEFIT:

A maximum award of Fifty Thousand Euros €50,000 per grantee for qualifying CSOs/CBOs from the aforementioned countries. The exact amount of the award will be determined by the nature/scope of the proposed interventions.
