DEVELOPMENT-RELATED POSTGRADUATE COURSES (EPOS) • DAAD

With its development-oriented postgraduate study programmes, the DAAD promotes the training of specialists from developing and newly industrialised countries. Well-trained local experts, who are networked with international partners, play an important part in the sustainable development of their countries.

ELIGIBILITY:

Graduates with at least two years’ professional experience from the following countries: list of eligible countries

Individual scholarships exclusively for Postgraduate courses in Germany that are listed on the List of all Postgraduate courses with application deadlines 2027/28.

The typical scholarship holder

Works either for a public authority or a state or private company in a developing country and, as such, is engaged in the planning and execution of directives and projects with emphasis on development policies having a bearing on technological, economic or social areas.

Holds a bachelor’s degree (normally four years) in a related subject.

Has completed an academic degree with far above average results (upper third) and at least two years of related professional experience after the first degree (bachelor) at the time of application.

His/her academic degrees should normally not be more than six years old.

Applicants who have been resident in germany for longer than 15 months at the application deadline cannot be considered

Recent proof of Language Skills:
English – IELTS or TOEFL (Note: The institutional TOEFL is not accepted.)
German – required for courses taught in German

Copies of your higher education degree certificates. Please provide a certified translation if the original is not in German or English, and make sure these are clearly legible.

Depending on academic level, monthly payments of 992 euros for graduates or 1,300 euros (1,400 euros beginning with February 2026) for doctoral candidates

Payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover

Travel allowance, unless these expenses are covered by the home country or another source of funding

Under certain circumstances, scholarship holders may receive the following additional benefits:

Monthly rent subsidy

Monthly allowance for accompanying members of family

Duration of the funding: 12 to 42 months (dependent on study programme)

SIR JAMES MCNEILL POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP AT MONASH UNIVERSITY

The Sir James McNeill Postgraduate Research Scholarship (SJMN) is funded by a private trust and was established in memory of the late Sir James McNeill, who had a long association with Monash University.

This prestigious scholarship is available for research that is both environmentally responsible and socially beneficial and helps support a graduate research student with living costs while studying at a Monash campus in Australia.

ELIGIBILITY:

You must be one of the following: An Australian citizen, A New Zealand citizen, Australian permanent resident, Australian humanitarian visa holder, and An International student

You must meet the following criteria:

Have submitted a scholarship application in the year the scholarship is offered;

Be undertaking research that is both environmentally responsible and socially beneficial;

Meet Monash’s competitive scholarship selection process requirements.

Meet Monash English language proficiency requirements.

This scholarship is also available to students undertaking Joint Research Awards when Monash University is the home institution.

Selection criteria:

Monash scholarships are highly competitive and are awarded based on academic excellence, research outputs and prior research experience.

The standard RTP Scholarships terms and conditions as outlined in the RTP Scholarship Procedures apply, with the exceptions outlined in the eligibility criteria above.

This scholarship is open to those conducting research within the faculties of Arts (School of Music only); Engineering; Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences and Science.

Graduate research scholarships applications are submitted at the same time as your course application, unless you are already enrolled. Whether you are a new applicant or a current student, the myApp Portal is used for both course admission and scholarship applications. You do not need to select specific scholarships, eligible applicants are automatically considered for all available graduate research scholarships.

BENEFIT:

Total scholarship value: $53,608 p.a (2026 rate)

The SJMN provides:

A living allowance (stipend);

A research allowance; and

A relocation allowance, if eligible.
