ASHTON AWARD FOR STUDENT RESEARCH

The Ashton Award for Student Research supports investigations by graduate and advanced undergraduate students working on Asian tropical forest biology. The Ashton Award for Student Research is made possible by the generosity of Professor Peter Ashton and his wife, Mary Ashton through the Peter and Mary Ashton Training Fund.

ELIGIBILITY:

Award available to advanced undergraduates and graduate students. The award is not limited to universities in the United States or to US citizens.

Awards are granted through a competitive review process. Selection of recipient(s) will be based on the educational background of the student and their readiness to conduct the proposed research; the quality of the proposed research; and the relevance of the proposed research to the mission of the Arnold Arboretum.

To be considered for an award, online applications should include the following:

Cover letter.

Research statement. The statement should be 1 to 2 pages and describe your research project and how additional funding via the Ashton Award would further your research aims. Include the names of other collaborators (in addition to your advisor). References should be included but do not count as part of the page limit.

Research budget. Applicants should submit a simple, 1-page budget that itemizes the research and travel costs associated with the proposed project.

Project timeline. Applicants should submit a timeline of the project and anticipated start and end dates.

Curriculum vitae.

Two letters of recommendation. As part of the online submission, you must send a request to the two referees to submit a letter of recommendation (via the request section). The referee will be automatically sent an email with a link to an online submission form where they will upload a letter of recommendation. It is highly recommended that you contact your referee prior to sending the request. Please inform the referee to expect an email from Admin@communityforce.com with instructions for submitting a recommendation letter. Each referee must upload his/her letter of recommendation via the link by February 1.

BENEFIT:

Awards of up to $4,000 are granted to support student research expenses.

NORTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY BACHELOR’S SCHOLARSHIP

Northwestern Oklahoma State University scholarships are open for application. The scholarships are not automatically renewed. Students must apply for scholarships each year by the specified deadlines. All students are encouraged to fill out applications for academic, participation, and departmental scholarships.

ELIGIBILITY:

Most scholarships are awarded to students with strong academic records and/or demonstrated leadership capabilities.

To qualify for any scholarship, you’ll need to meet all scholarship eligibility requirements.

Incoming Freshman – All students must complete a Freshman Scholarship Application prior to specified deadlines for eligibility purposes. To be eligible for academic scholarship funds, you must have a minimum 3.0 CGPA and at least a 21 ACT score.  If CGPA is a 3.75 or greater and ACT is not at least a 21, alternative academic scholarships are available.  Participation Scholarships require a 2.5 CGPA..

Continuing Northwestern students—In order to be eligible for scholarships after your first year at Northwestern, you must successfully complete at least 24 credit hours at Northwestern during the academic year (including summer) and you must maintain a minimum 2.5 CGPA for participation scholarships and at least a 3.5 CGPA for academic scholarships. Apply using the Continuing Student Scholarship Application for academic scholarships and use the individual department online forms for any departmental (Foundation) scholarships.

Transfer students—In order to be eligible for scholarships at Northwestern, you must have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours in the prior year at the school from which you transferred. You must have a 2.5 CGPA for Participation Scholarships and a Transfer Incentive Scholarship. For Associate’s Degree Scholarships, you must have a 3.0 – 4.0 CGPA, and for Academic Scholarships, you must have a minimum 3.5 CGPA.  Apply using the Transfer Student Application

Freshman Year Academic Awards

Freshman Academic Scholarships

$500-$1,200 toward tuition. Must have a 3.0 High School CGPA and 21-25 Composite ACT. If CGPA is 3.75 or greater and ACT is not at least a 21, alternative academic scholarships are available. 

Extraordinarily Talented Award
$1,900 toward tuition and 1/2 of the cost of semi-private dorm room. Must have a 3.0 High School CGPA and 26-28 Composite ACT.

Exceptionally & Extraordinarily Talented Award
$1,900 toward tuition and full cost of semi-private dorm room. Must have a 3.0 High School CGPA and 29 Composite ACT.

Available for all undergraduate students. Qualifications vary. Awards are up to $2,000
