The Internet Society Pulse Research Fellowship is a six-month program that supports researchers in conducting data-driven analysis or developing tools that contribute to an open, globally connected, secure, and trustworthy Internet.

ELIGIBILITY:

Mentors and Fellows will work on one Internet Society Pulse focus area: Enabling TechnologiesInternet ShutdownsInternet ResilienceMarket Concentration, and Keeping Traffic Local.

Research Fellowship: The Pulse Research Fellowship is open to students or researchers based anywhere in the world who are interested in using state-of-the-art and/or novel Internet measurement techniques to research a specific area that contributes to upholding an open, globally connected, secure, and trustworthy Internet.

Must be early-career researchers (graduate students, postdocs, junior faculty, and others conducting research outside of an academic institution within 10 years of graduation).

Must be affiliated with an academic or research institution.

Have not been a previous Pulse Research Fellow.

Research Mentorship: This year they are inviting seasoned Internet measurement researchers as “mentors” to help guide the fellows during the six-month program.

Expertise in Internet Measurements, Internet Policy, and/or other related fields (economics, social science, etc.)

Prior mentorship experience.

Can come from different sectors such as industry, non-profit organizations, research, or academic institutions.

Mentors should have a Ph.D with a good record of publications.

Duration: The fellowship and mentorship lasts approximately six months and will comprise two cohorts, one starting in February 2025 and the second in June 2025.

BENEFIT:

The Internet Society will pay the following compensation directly to the fellow/mentor or contribute to their institution’s finances.

Fellow: USD 17,000 (including USD 2,000 equipment/travel support)

Mentor: USD 10,000 (including USD 2,000 equipment/travel support)

WELLS MOUNTAIN INITIATIVE (WMI) SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME FOR STUDENTS FROM DEVELOPING COUNTRIES.

The WMI Scholars Program supports students earning their first tertiary certificate, diploma, or bachelor’s degree, and the awards last throughout all years of undergraduate education if the awardee meets ongoing scholarship support criteria. Highly competitive scholarship opportunities for students in developing countries are available.

ELIGIBILITY:

A student, male or female, from a country in the developing world who:

Will be 35 years of age or younger as of August 1, 2025

Has completed or is in the final year of secondary education, with above-average to excellent grades

Is applying to university or is currently enrolled and taking classes towards completion of their first undergraduate degree,

Will be studying in their home country or another country in the developing world

Plans to live and work in their own country after graduation

Has participated in volunteer service before applying for this scholarship and is committed to volunteering within their community during their studies

Has some funding available for their education but will not be able to go to university or continue without assistance.

The WMI scholarship does not always cover the full cost of tuition and associated educational expenses. The scholarship is not intended to be a full scholarship.

BENEFIT:

They award 80-100 scholarships per year. The maximum scholarship is USD 3,000 per year, but the average scholarship is USD 1500.
