UNIVERSITY OF NOTTINGHAM INTERNATIONAL SPORTING EXCELLENCE AWARD

Unlock your academic and sporting potential with a tuition fee scholarship by applying for the International Sporting Excellence Award at the University of Nottingham. The institution offers scholarships towards full-time tuition fees for international students at any study level with outstanding sporting ability.

ELIGIBILITY:

To apply for the International Sporting Excellence Award scholarship, you must:

be of academy, national or international standard in any sport or show strong evidence of future outstanding potential

hold an offer to start a full-time academic course in any subject area at the University of Nottingham, UK.

To apply:

This scholarship opens in January each year and is assessed via completing a sport scholarship application.

You do not need to receive an offer of study before applying for this scholarship, but we recommend applying for an academic course as soon as possible. Search for courses and find out how to apply.

Scholarship Criteria:

Priority is given to sports within the BUCS programme, Olympic, Paralympic, and Commonwealth sports, with other sports considered on a case-by-case basis.

This award cannot be combined with another University of Nottingham regional or sports scholarship. However, you may also be able to receive a subject scholarship from your academic school or an external scholarship, where the combined total does not exceed 100% of tuition fees. This could include, for example, an award from Nottingham University Business School and/or the government or other funding body in your country.

If you are awarded this scholarship, it will be deducted from the tuition fees charged to you as a student at the University of Nottingham. We will not pay tuition fee scholarships to you directly.

You may be offered either an International Sporting Excellence Award or another sports scholarships package.

BENEFIT:

They offer scholarships of £1,000-£7,000 towards full-time tuition fees for international students at any study level with outstanding sporting ability.

FULLY FUNDED INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE, TOKYO INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE AND DOCTORAL PROGRAM (C) SPRING/FALL

Application Deadline: October 11, 2026, at 23:59 (JST)

LOCATION: Japan

With a diverse group of 18 academic departments participating in this program, students should be able to find a department in which to further their research, acquire broader knowledge and understanding, and conduct advanced long-term research in a field that best matches their interests and background. There is no Japanese language requirement for this program as lectures and seminars are held in English. Qualified international students, who may have little or no knowledge of the Japanese language, can enroll in the Institute of Science Tokyo’s Master’s, Doctoral, or Integrated Doctoral Education Program and pursue an advanced degree in Japan. However, students are given opportunities to attend Japanese language classes on a regular basis in order to better adapt to daily life in Japan.

ELIGIBILITY:

Apply to a different Science Tokyo program before receiving admission results or (ii) submit multiple applications to different master’s programs for the same enrollment period. Applications in either of the above two cases will be rejected or revoked.

Master’s Program / Integrated Doctoral Education Program:

Persons who have successfully completed 16 years of education outside Japan or who are expected to do so by the day before the enrolment date

Persons who have graduated from a university or college in Japan or who are expected to do so by the day before the enrollment date.

Persons who have successfully completed 3 years or more of education at a university or college outside Japan and obtained a degree equivalent to a bachelor’s degree or who are expected to do so by the day before the enrolment date

Persons who have successfully completed 15 years of education and are individually assessed and recognized by the relevant School at Science Tokyo as having an outstanding academic record

Persons whose countries do not require 16 years of education prior to completing an undergraduate-level education, but who satisfy both conditions noted below and are individually assessed and recognized by the relevant School at Science Tokyo as having academic ability equivalent to or higher than that of graduates of a Japanese university

Persons who have spent at least one year as a research student or research fellow at a university or research institution in or outside Japan after successfully completing undergraduate-level education

Persons who are at least 22 years old by the day before the enrolment date

Doctoral Program:

Persons who have successfully obtained a degree equivalent to a master’s degree or a professional master’s degree at a university or college outside Japan or who are expected to do so by the day before the enrolment date

Persons who have obtained a master’s degree or a professional master’s degree in Japan or who are expected to do so by the day before the admission date

Persons who do not meet eligibility conditions (1) or (2) but are individually assessed and recognized by the relevant School at Science Tokyo as having academic abilities equivalent to or higher than those of a master’s degree or professional master’s degree holder and are at least 24 years old by the day before the enrolment date

Note: The admission of applicants expecting to obtain a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or

professional master’s degree from a university or college will be revoked should the applicant fail to do so by the day before the admission date.

Application Process:

Prior to application, applicants are required to contact their intended academic supervisor at Science Tokyo directly via email, provide a self-introductory statement and a letter of intent for their period of study at Science Tokyo, and obtain the consent of the desired faculty member to serve in this capacity.

Applications will not be considered without the consent of a Science Tokyo faculty member who will act as the applicant’s academic supervisor.

Before proceeding with the online application process, applicants must obtain a consent letter from a Science Tokyo faculty member and send a copy of it to the Admissions Division by October 4, at 23:59 (JST). After verifying the document, the Admissions Division will provide applicants with a URL for the online application system and a required password.

Note: Faculty members are affiliated with schools and assigned to teach a graduate major. Students must select a graduate major from the faculty list. Please ask your intended academic supervisor which graduate major you should select.

Requirements for the completion of a degree are stipulated for each graduate major.

Application Guide

BENEFIT:

Overseas applicants who enroll at Science Tokyo have the chance to apply for the “Reservation Program for Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship for Privately Financed International Students by Pre-arrival Admission” from the Japan Student Services Organization (“JASSO”). The monthly amount of this scholarship is JPY 48,000 and is subject to change as specified by JASSO. This scholarship will be paid from April 2027 to March 2028 (12 months). Applicants must pay the enrollment and tuition fees even if they are selected for this scholarship. Please note that those who are granted any other scholarship that doesn’t allow plural grants cannot apply for this scholarship simultaneously.

ADB-JSP: This scholarship is for the master’s degree programs only. The scholarship provides a monthly allowance of JPY 147,000 per month, a book allowance of JPY 100,000 per year, a thesis allowance of JPY 50,000 per year, travel expenses, medical insurance, and others. This scholarship is for only FALL INTAKE.
