UNIVERSITY OF EDINBURGH COMMONWEALTH PHD SCHOLARSHIPS

LOCATION: United Kingdom

The Commonwealth PhD Scholarships are for applicants from least developed countries and vulnerable states, as classified by the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC), in the Commonwealth, for full-time doctoral study at a UK university.

ELIGIBILITY:

To apply for this scholarship, applicants must:

Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person.

Be a permanent resident in an eligible Commonwealth country.

Be available to start academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September 2026.

By September 2026, hold a first degree of at least upper second-class (2:1) honours standard, or a lower second-class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree).

Not be registered for a PhD, or an MPhil leading to a PhD, at a UK university or in their home country before September/October 2026.

Be unable to afford to study in the UK without this scholarship.

Have provided all supporting documentation in the required format.

Provisional selection for a scholarship is subject to the agreement of the university for which candidates are selected, as part of the funding for the scholarship is provided by that university.

MCI MERIT-BASED BAN KI-MOON BACHELOR’S AND MASTER’S SCHOLARSHIP

Application Deadline: March 31, 2026

LOCATION: Austria

International students (full-degree), who are citizens of countries outside the European Union and the European Economic Area, can avail themselves of the Ban Ki-Moon Bachelor’s and Master’s Scholarship. They aim to reward outstanding achievement and support you in making a positive impact on your studies and careers.

ELIGIBILITY:

Students who have been engaged and committed to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and aim to further engage with as well as promote these goals during their studies

For MCI Executive master’s program: All nationals

For all other MCI bachelors’ and masters’ programs: Nationals of Non-EU-EEA countries

The scholarship is applicable for the first year of the respective bachelor’s or master’s program and may be extended to the subsequent year of your studies upon positive evaluation and successful completion of your first academic year.

The outstanding tuition fee as well as the scholarship terms and conditions for the Executive master’s program may vary.

A motivation letter describing the applicant’s engagement in SDG activities, their future goals and explaining how their studies at the MCI will help them achieve these aims. The motivation letter should also explain how applicants would benefit from the awarded scholarship (financial aspects)
