VIENNA BIOCENTER SCIENTIFIC POSTDOCS PROGRAM (2025 – 2030)

Designed to promote excellence and innovation in the life sciences, the program provides fellows with exceptional opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, international networking, and comprehensive career development. ELIGIBILITY:

The VIP3 program aims at attracting talented early-stage scientists from around the world to our highly dynamiccollaborative, and international campus to conduct interdisciplinary and innovative research.

Applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

Hold a PhD degree by the application deadline (31 May, 2026) in an area that is relevant to the research carried out at the VBC

The proposed scientific project must be interdisciplinary by combining the expertise of two VBC research groups participating in the current VIP3 call.

Applicants must have at least one (co-)first-author original research publication or preprint posted on one of the public servers.

By the time of the call deadline, applicants must fulfill the MSCA “mobility rule”; that is, they should not have resided in or carried out their main activity (work, studies) in Austria for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the call deadline.

Research proposal bridging at least two of the research groups participating in the current call (max. 3 pages including reference list)

Statement on the expected broader impact beyond the scientific output to the public (½ page)

Contact details of two referees

List of reviewers to be excluded (if applicable)

BENEFIT:

Salary: All VIP3 fellows will be hired under full-time employment contracts (40h) by one of the host institutions, following that institution’s salary scheme. The salary reference is the salary scheme of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), Austria’s central funding organization for basic research.

Relocation Costs: The VIP3 participating institutions have mechanisms in place to contribute to the relocation costs of the fellows.

Research Costs: All the required research costs will be financed by the host groups / institutes.

GLOBAL PEACE PHOTO AWARD

The Global Peace Photo Award (formerly the Alfred Fried Photography Award) is organized by Edition Lammerhuber in partnership with Photographische Gesellschaft (PHG), UNESCO, Austrian Parliament, Austrian Parliamentary Reporting Association, International Press Institute (IPI), World Press Photo Foundation, POY LATAM, LensCulture, APA – Austria Presse Agentur, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Photographie (DGPh) e.V., UNICEF Austria and Vienna Insurance Group.

ELIGIBILITY:

The Global Peace Photo Award is open to all photographers from anywhere in the world.

Digital submissions must be saved as .jpg, with more than 3000 pixels on the longest side. Images must not include any embedded marks, logos, names, or borders.

There will be a total of €11,000 in cash prizes to be won in all 6 categories!

The Peace Image of the Year will be honoured with a cash prize of € 7,000 sponsored by the Vienna Insurance Group.

3 winners in the Stories category will each receive €1,000
1 winner in the single picture category receives €1,000
Childen’s Peace Image of the Year receives €1,000

All winning works will be awarded the Alfred Fried Peace Medal and the photographers will be invited to the award ceremony in Vienna in September 2026, with travel expenses and accommodation covered. All submitted images have the chance to take part in international exhibitions.
