YALE YOUNG GLOBAL SCHOLARS

Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) is an academic enrichment program for outstanding high school students from around the world. Each summer, students from over 150 countries (including all 50 U.S. states) participate in one interdisciplinary, two-week session at Yale’s historic campus. Immerse yourself in a global learning community at Yale University.

ELIGIBILITY:

Be between the ages of 16-18 years old by July 21, 2024 (first day of Session III).*

Be able to participate in a rigorous academic curriculum conducted in English. 

Be a current high school sophomore or junior (or international equivalent).

Be graduating in May/June 2025 or 2026 from the Northern Hemisphere, or in Nov./Dec. 2024 or 2025 from the Southern Hemisphere.

Be a first-time participant in YYGS. If you have participated in a YYGS session during a previous summer (2023 and prior), then you are not eligible to participate during YYGS 2024.

Please note: If you previously applied to YYGS but were not offered admission or were unable attend AND you meet the eligibility criteria noted above, then you are encouraged to re-apply for YYGS 2024.

BENEFIT:

Yale Young African Scholars (YYAS) Alumni Scholarships will be awarded to selected students who completed the YYAS program in any summer prior to 2024. The scholarship covers full tuition and travel costs for students to attend any of the YYGS sessions offered in 2024.

YYGS will waive the application fee if it constitutes a significant financial burden for the student’s family. The link to the Fee Waiver Request Form is available on the “Payment Options” page in the YYGS application, but it will only appear there AFTER students have fully completed the “Financial Aid” page in the YYGS application (as it is only available for those who request need-based financial aid). Students who apply for a fee waiver must have a school official finalize the form.

CDC ABEL VISITING SCHOLAR PROGRAM

Application Deadline: December 31, 2023

LOCATION: Germany

The Abel Visiting Scholar Program is intended for mathematicians professionally based in developing countries to visit an international research collaborator for a period of one month.

ELIGIBILITY:

Applicants must:

 hold at the time of application a PhD in Mathematics,

be based in a developing country at the time of application (As defined by IMU)

hold a position in a university/ research institution

be in the early stages of their professional careers, more precisely: the applicants should:

not yet be of full professorial rank but have a working contract in a university/ college.

be under 35 years of age at the day of the application deadline.

The maximum age may be increased by up to three years in the case of an individual with a broken career pattern. This should be noted in the application together with the reason for the broken career pattern. Applications from women mathematicians are strongly encouraged.

BENEFIT:

The grant can cover for one month and only for the applicant up to 4,400 EUR (5,000 Dollars):

Basic living cost for the first month (daily allowance based on living cost of the visiting country/city, This amount includes the cost for public transport and all other living costs). For a list please go here. If the accommodation includes breakfast or any other meals, the daily amount will be reduced.

Accommodation cost in the host country (hotel is allowed if the host provides a statement that no guesthouse or rented flat is available and max. 4 weeks. If you stay longer than 4 weeks you have to rent a suitable apartment or guesthouse). Receipts for cash payments for accommodation costs can not be accepted! You have to pay via a trackable transfer method.
