STANFORD AFRICAN SCHOLARS IN GLOBAL

Applications are now open for the first two cohorts of the Stanford African Scholars in Global Health (SASH) Program. This three-year program supports 24 mid-career physicians from African countries to travel to Stanford for a six-week period of time, gaining a specific skill set identified by the African scholars as a need to improve health outcomes at their academic institution.

ELIGIBILITY:

This program is open to licensed African physicians with a faculty appointment, who are currently working at an African academic institution. It is open to physicians from all specialties and primary care who seek a specific skill to improve health outcomes at their institution. However, we will prioritize those from Sub-Saharan Africa interested in the fields of antimicrobial resistance, oncology, vaccine uptake or inflammatory diseases.

To be considered, applicants must meet all the following eligibility criteria:

Be in good standing within their institutions and demonstrate an ongoing commitment to improving health outcomes in their home countries.

Be an African citizen* who is currently living, teaching and practicing clinically in an African country.

Be a board-certified medical doctor with one of the following degrees: MD, MBChB or MMed.

Be a mid-career physician, appointed as a faculty member for at least 3 and less than 15 years.

Have strong working proficiency in written and spoken English (as determined by the selection committee).

Visa costs

Living expenses while at Stanford during Phase 1

Honorarium for Phase 1

Travel to and from a San Francisco regional airport, economy class roundtrip airfare for the awardee only, and associated travel costs to Stanford for Phase 1

Up to $50,000 in grant funding from Pfizer provided directly to scholars’ academic institutions for phase 2 project implementation. These funds cannot be used to purchase capital equipment.*

OCI FOUNDATION UNDERGRADUATE (CUS OR CBH) SCHOLARSHIP

Application Opens: 22 February; Deadline: 26 April, 2024

LOCATION: Nigeria

Apply for the OCI Foundation Undergraduate (CUS or CBH) scholarship. The 2024 Scholarship applications (for both the first-time and renewing candidates) will commence from midnight of February the 22nd 2024, and ends at midnight of April 26th, 2024. All times are based on GMT. Ensure you have the required documents, which should be submitted separately by email to: info@ocifoundation.org.

ELIGIBILITY:

First-Time Applicants:

A valid Government-issued identity (ID) document (e.g. an International Travel Passport, a Voter’s Card, a National Identity Card or a Driver’s License). Applicants who are below the age of 18 years and are unable to apply for a government ID can submit a birth certificate.

An official letter from your school (Head of Department) stating the following: Your full name, Gender, Matriculation number (Newly matriculated scholars who have not yet received a matriculation number or school ID must provide a  provisional admission letter from their institution of study), Course Title and Level, Department of Study;

Certified (by a qualified legal practitioner) copies of the following. Note that the originals must be presented by successful applicants during the interviews:

JAMB/UME result certificate

Senior Secondary School Exam Certificate (WASSCE or NECO)

A valid student ID for your host institution

A recent passport photograph

A letter of recognition from the Traditional Ruler of your town, confirming your Local Government Area in Anambra State of Nigeria. No other letters or documents will be accepted in lieu of this.

A 500-word essay, about “My family”.

Note that originals of all the submitted documents will need to be viewed during the interview, which will only be attended by successful candidates

Renewing Applicants:

An official letter from your school (Head of Department) stating the following: Your full name, Gender, Matriculation number, Course Title and Level, Department of Study, and your Cumulative Grade point Average (CGPA) for the years completed.                                                                                       AND/OR:

An official statement of your result for the completed year(s).

If applicable, a letter stating any change(s) in your circumstances (change in department, withdrawal from school, and so on).

Note that originals of all the submitted documents will need to be viewed during the interview, which will only be attended by successful candidates.
