VICTORIA UNIVERSITY INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIPS

Victoria University welcomes international students to apply for a research scholarship. The international postgraduate research scholarships provide financial assistance to students with excellent academic qualifications who are participating in postgraduate research programs in Australia. These scholarships support high-quality research and are awarded on the basis of academic merit and research potential.

ELIGIBILITY:

To be eligible for one of these scholarships, you must:

be a citizen of any country other than Australia or New Zealand

meet the University’s academic entrance requirements for enrolment into a research degree

meet the University’s English-language proficiency requirements for enrolment in a research degree

Applicants for a RTP Stipend Scholarship – International must also:

have a weighted average mark (WAM) or Honours year grade of H1 (VU Standard 85% or above) or equivalent in the most recent eligible qualification

be commencing a research doctoral degree (Doctor of Philosophy)

nominate a research-focus outline as part of your application

enrol as a full-time student

You are not eligible for an RTP Stipend Scholarship – International if you are currently studying, or have recently studied, on an AIDAB or AUSAID scholarship and are applying immediately following the AIDAB/AUSAID funded studies.

Priority will be given to applicants who:

have not already obtained a PhD degree or equivalent if they are proposing to undertake another one

have not previously held an IPRS, VUIPRS or OPRS (unless it was for a Masters of Research degree, and you are applying to undertake PhD studies).

BENEFIT:

RTP Stipend Scholarships – International are awarded to graduate researchers based on academic merit and research potential.

The RTP Stipend Scholarship – International includes the following:

An RTP Fee Offset Scholarship exempting the recipient from paying tuition fees

A living allowance of $35,707 per year (2026 rate)

Overseas student health cover (single cover).

UNIVERSITY OF BAYREUTH CENTRE OF INTERNATIONAL EXCELLENCE ALEXANDER VON HUMBOLDT STARTER GRANT PROGRAMME 2027

The University of Bayreuth Centre of International Excellence “Alexander von Humboldt” promotes excellent research at the University of Bayreuth (UBT) and advances the internationalization of research and networking with the best universities worldwide. Effective immediately, the Centre is offering Starter Grants for the year 2027.

Starter Grants for the year 2027

ELIGIBILITY:

Open to all disciplines

Candidate Requirements: They award the grants to individuals affiliated with institutions abroad with challenging and innovative research projects of top academic quality through a highly competitive, strictly merit-based selection process. Applicants must have a PhD, and it is indispensable that the PhD procedure is fully completed (including PhD diploma). The all-important selection criteria are the academic excellence of both the applicant and the cooperative project—reflected, for example, in high-ranking publications—as well as the potential for networking with the University of Bayreuth beyond the local host.

BENEFIT:

Award sum: 10,000 €

The Grantees will have the awarded sum at their disposal for covering all costs of project realization. Grantees accompanied by at least one child receive an additional monthly family allowance of 250 €. If successful, Grantees may apply for a follow-up grant called a “Booster Grant” by the Bayreuth Humboldt Centre (award sum 20,000 €). This requires proof of the successfully completed Starter Grant. Success must be documented in, e.g., joint publications, a jointly organized workshop or conference, or other results of the starter funding. These success criteria will be evaluated during the selection process for the Booster Grant. Please see the Application Guidelines for details.
