OIST RESEARCH INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

The OIST Graduate School offers education and research opportunities through their Research Internship Program in STEM fields. The research internship at OIST gives students experience working in a research environment directed by OIST faculty.

ELIGIBILITY:

Those who are currently enrolled in their last two years of a bachelor’s degree; enrolled in any year of a master’s degree in universities, colleges, junior colleges, and vocational schools in Japan or overseas, or those who have graduated with a bachelor’s or master’s degree, are eligible to apply for the Research Internship at OIST.
If you will be in your final two years of a bachelor’s degree by the start of the proposed internship duration, you are also eligible to apply.

Currently enrolled students must have approval from their home institution. The academic background of applicants should be appropriate to their desired host unit(s) at OIST.

Our Research Internship is intended for those who need more research experience and who are interested in joining OIST’s PhD Program later. Current or graduated PhD students who wish to collaborate with OIST should look for other opportunities such as Workshops or Careers at OIST.

Research Interns who belong to a Japanese university/institution are required to prepare and bring their own insurances when accepted to the OIST Research Internship Program. Acceptable insurances are the combination of Gakkensai and Gakkenbai, or other insurances with similar coverage.

They only accept application documents online. To apply for the program, you must create an account. Please prepare all required documents in English, save them as a PDF file, and upload them to the application website. You can complete the application in one session or save your progress and return to finish it later.

BENEFIT:

The following support is only available for the research intern and does not extend to dependents, family members, or others.

Travel Expenses: One direct round-trip air ticket (travel date will be closest date to the term of placement)

Accommodation: Furnished accommodation on or off campus, funded by OIST or the research unit

Administrative Support: Acquisition of Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) for your visa application as well as registration procedures

Internship Allowance: 2,400 JPY per working day

Transportation Support: OIST Shuttle Bus Pass

WACSI NEXT GENERATION INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) invites young professionals from Nigeria, Guinea, Niger, and Togo to apply for its fully funded Next Generation Internship Programme (NGIP) running from July to December 2026.

ELIGIBILITY:

This six-month opportunity is open to fresh graduates and early-career professionals with a background in fields such as international affairs, political science, public policy, law, or development studies and an interest in civil society and nonprofit management.

Applicants must have a minimum of a first degree in international affairs, political science, public policy, law, development studies, or related fields. Applicants should also show an interest in civil society and nonprofit organization management.

Responsibilities for Interns:

Supporting the design and implementation of institutional assessment tools, training, and technical support.

Participating in unit and cross-unit program/project planning and proposal development.

Providing general administrative support for programmes, budget monitoring, tracking, and maintaining a calendar of activities.

Assisting with arrangements and organisation of the various pieces of training and technical support planned under the Unit.

Serving as a liaison between WACSI and resource persons, associates, partners, and beneficiaries.

Aiding in designing and developing training tools such as toolkits, modules, and other indigenous training resources.

Researching, writing, and producing briefings and fact sheets on ongoing programmes and projects.

Developing and drafting project work plans, reports, concept notes, and other documentation, such as training and resource materials, presentations, and budget proposals.

Conduct desktop research on policy and legislative issues.

Assist in gathering information and writing reports for policy meetings

Assist in policy meetings and workshop preparation

Assist in the development of policy advocacy training tool

Support other administrative tasks

Any other duties that the Head of the Unit may assign Must have skills

Interest in civil society and non-profit organization management

Strong research, writing and communication (verbal and written) skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong internet research skills

Bilingual skills (French and English/English and Portuguese)

Please Note: Preference will be given to applicants with high proficiency in English, French, or Portuguese and a working knowledge of one other.

The successful interns from Guinea, Niger, and Togo will spend a substantial part of their internship working at the WACSI office in Accra, Ghana.

The successful Nigerian intern will be based in the WACSI Node Office in Abuja, Nigeria. Applicants must therefore be based in Abuja, Nigeria, as there is no provision for accommodation.

The internship period is from July to December 2026. Interns who are unable to complete the six-month internship will refund the total cost of the internship package to WACSI. WEST AFRICA CIVIL SOCIETY INSTITUTE

BENEFIT:

This is a fully funded internship by WACSI. The institute will support interns fully with a flight to and from their home country, furnished accommodation, lunch during working days for the duration of the internship, and a monthly stipend.
