ROTARY YONEYAMA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (OVERSEAS CANDIDATES)

LOCATION: Japan

The Rotary Yoneyama Scholarship for Overseas Candidates is for international students located outside Japan that are scheduled to enroll in APU’s Graduate School. Both master’s and doctoral program applicants are welcome to apply. The applicant must apply to both APU and the scholarship organization independently. Review the application and selection process thoroughly for both APU and the scholarship organization.

ELIGIBILITY:

Must not hold Japanese nationality (dual nationality holders included)

Must obtain a student visa to enter Japan for the purpose of study

Residing outside Japan until the start of the program

Have not resided in Japan for longer than 31 days in total. If the stay exceeded 31 days, it was due to a family situation (only applicable if applicant had not completed compulsory education at the time) or the applicant was residing in Japan under the Rotary Youth Exchange high school program.

Japanese language proficiency at least equivalent to JLPT N4 or above

Born after April 2, 1982

In case you do not meet the requirements 1 and 2 at the time of application, you may apply for the scholarship on the condition that the requirements will be met by the time you arrive in Japan.

Application for both April 2027 Enrollment: Submit your application by October 7, 2026.

Application for both September 2027 Enrollment: Submit your application by September 15, 2026.

Applicants should check the eligibility and apply directly to the scholarship organization around March for April enrollment and around August for September enrollment. Inform the organization that the Letter of Acceptance from your desired university will be issued after the scholarship application deadline.

Indicate your intention to be considered a Rotary Yoneyama Scholarship candidate in the APU Online Application System and submit your application to APU.

APU will issue the Letter of Acceptance to candidates selected for the scholarship after the admissions results are announced.

Submit the acceptance letter to the scholarship organization.

There may be changes to the scholarship conditions. Please be sure to check the details on the scholarship organization’s website.

BENEFIT:

The scholarship provides a monthly stipend for the duration of time:

Master’s students: 140,000 JPY per month for two years

Doctoral students: 140,000 JPY per month for two years

Economy air travel and other travel related expenses reimbursed up to 250,000 JPY after arrival in Japan

BEIJING GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS (FOR FRESHMAN)

To encourage more outstanding international students to pursue studies and academic research at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), self-financed applicants may apply for the Beijing Government Scholarship for International Students in accordance with personal circumstances.

ELIGIBILITY:

Outstanding international students pursuing degree programs or non-degree programs in China.

Degree students: Undergraduates, master’s students, doctoral students

Non-degree students: Foundation students, visiting students (study duration no less than one academic year,including inter-university exchange students)

Application Requirements:

Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens, friendly to China and in good physical and mental health.

Academic Background & Age Limits

Bachelor’s program applicants: High school graduate or equivalent, aged under 25.

Master’s program applicants: Bachelor’s degree holder or equivalent, aged under 35.

Doctoral program applicants: Master’s degree holder or equivalent, aged under 40.

Undergraduate foundation program applicants: High school graduate or equivalent with pre-admission notice, aged under 24.

Visiting & exchange students: Bachelor degree holder or current undergraduate/postgraduate student, aged under 45.

Visiting scholars: Master’s degree or above, or associate professor title or above, aged under 50.

Language & Academic Requirements:

For Chinese-taught programs:

Foundation & visiting programs: Minimum HSK Level 3

Degree programs: Minimum HSK Level 4

For foreign language-taught programs: Please refer to program catalogues and faculty notices for specific language requirements.

Minimum academic performance: Average score 80 out of 100 or GPA 3.0. Current students shall have an average score no less than 80 in the previous academic year.

Highest academic degree certificate and academic transcripts

Language proficiency certificates (HSK, IELTS, TOEFL, etc.)

CSCA score report for undergraduate program applicants

Other supportive documents such as recommendation letters and award certificates (optional)

Other documents as specified in BFSU International Student Admission Brochure

The university selects qualified recipients through document review and academic assessment. The scholarship list and category will be published on the official website of BFSU International Student Office for a public notice period of five working days.

Important Notes:

All applicants must first meet the general admission requirements stipulated in BFSU International Student Admission Brochure. Available majors are subject to the latest official admission brochure and major catalogue.

All submitted documents will not be returned regardless of application results. Individual notification will not be sent to unsuccessful applicants.

Applicants shall take full responsibility for the authenticity of all submitted materials. Any falsification will lead to disqualification and corresponding consequences.

Category A: Covers tuition fees, accommodation fees, living allowance and comprehensive medical insurance.

Category C: Covers tuition fees and comprehensive medical insurance.

Benefit Standards:

Tuition Fee: Full tuition waiver for one academic year, subject to the official tuition standard of BFSU in the current year.

Accommodation: Free on-campus dormitory provided by the university.

For off-campus accommodation allowance:

Undergraduates & Postgraduates: RMB 700 per month

Doctoral students: RMB 1,000 per month

Monthly Living Allowance in China:

Undergraduate students: RMB 2,500

Master’s students: RMB 3,000

Doctoral students: RMB 3,500

Comprehensive Medical Insurance: RMB 800 per person.
