UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA (UBC) MERIT-BASED SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS FOR INTERNATIONAL UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

The University of British Columbia (UBC) is encouraging exceptional international students to apply for their renowned merit-based scholarships for the 2025 academic year. UBC recognizes the academic achievement of outstanding students from around the world by devoting more than $30 million annually to awards, scholarships, and other forms of financial support for international undergraduate students.

ELIGIBILITY:

International Major Entrance Scholarship: International Major Entrance Scholarships (IMES) are awarded to exceptional international students entering undergraduate programs at UBC. Students receive their IMES when they enter their first year at UBC, and the scholarships are renewable for up to three additional years of study. The number and level of these scholarships awarded each year vary, depending on available funding.

To be considered for the IMES, you must:

Be new to UBC, entering directly from secondary school.

Be an international student who will be studying at UBC on a Canadian study permit (student visa). (Changes to your citizenship status will affect your IMES eligibility.)

Demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and intellectual promise, as well as impressive extracurricular and community involvement.

Not be nominated for a need-and-merit-based International Scholars award.

Outstanding International Student Award: The Outstanding International Student (OIS) Award is a one-time, merit-based entrance scholarship awarded to qualified students when they are offered admission to UBC. Students selected for this award show strength academically and display involvement outside of the classroom.

To be considered for an OIS Award, you must:

Be new to UBC, entering directly from secondary school or post-secondary (university or college).

Be an international student studying at UBC on a Canadian study permit (student visa). (Changes to your citizenship status will affect your scholarship eligibility.)

Demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and strong extracurricular involvement.

Not be nominated for a need-and-merit-based International Scholars award.

UBC Okanagan International Welcome Award: All international students who apply to UBC with a UBC Okanagan degree listed as their first choice and who are accepted and enrol into their UBC Okanagan first-choice program, will receive this award. 

To be considered for the International Welcome Award, you must:

be a first-year international student,

select a UBC Okanagan degree listed as your first choice, and

be accepted to UBC Okanagan and enroll in your first-choice degree.

Apply to UBC by the admissions deadline.

BENEFIT:

UBC’s scholarships provide significant financial relief to help international students afford quality education in Canada. The scholarship benefits include:

International Major Entrance Scholarship (IMES): Up to $10,000 – $20,000 per year, renewable for up to three additional years based on academic performance.

Outstanding International Student (OIS) Award: A one-time award ranging from $10,000 – $25,000.

UBC Okanagan International Welcome Award: A $5,000 scholarship to assist new international students at the UBC Okanagan campus.

These awards can help cover tuition fees, living expenses, and study materials, making it easier for students to focus on their academic goals.

UNIVERSITY OF PADUA INTERNATIONAL EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP

LOCATION: Italy

The University of Padua offers 62 scholarships to highly talented international students enrolling in English-taught Degree programmes at the University of Padua (A.Y. 2025/2026)The scholarship programme is highly selective. Only candidates showing the highest achievements and school/academic records may receive a scholarship. Successful scholars will be expected to fulfil an ambassadorial role and represent the University at a number of events.

ELIGIBILITY:

Highly talented prospective international students from all over the world wishing to enroll in one of the University of Padua Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees completely held in English.

Do not possess an Italian citizenship (except for dual citizenship, including Italian);

hold a non-Italian foreign secondary school diploma (for Bachelor’s or Single-cycle degrees applicants) or a non-Italian Bachelor’s degree (for Master’s degrees applicants) allowing admission to the Italian University system;

do not reside in Italy;

apply to one or more of the abovementioned degree programmes completely taught in English at the University of Padua. Please remember that you can apply up to 3 degree programmes.

If you meet these requirements, you will be automatically considered for the selection procedure. There is no separate application or additional specific documents to be submitted besides those required to apply for the selected degree programme.

Selection criteria: the Academic Commitee of each degree programme shortlists eligible applicants and awards the most deserving candidates the scholarships, based on academic excellence in their field of study, quality, and records from their prior learning.

Selection results: Scholarships are reserved for candidates applying for the first application period; on an exceptional basis, the Academic Committees may decide to award the scholarship to eligible candidates of the second application period. 

BENEFIT:

Amount of scholarship: fee-waiver + €8,000 scholarship (gross amount) per each academic year. The only amount to be paid by beneficiary students for each year consists of an admission fee, corresponding to the regional tax and marca da bollo.

Duration: the Padua International Excellence Scholarship has a maximum duration of:

2 continuous years for Master’s degree candidates;

3 continuous years for Bachelor’s and Single-Cycle degree candidates.

Payments arrangements and maintenance requirements: the scholarship  will be paid in two (2) instalments of  €4,000 (gross amount) each per academic year upon achievement of the merit requirements indicated in the Call for applications.
