UNIVERSITY OF GENEVA EXCELLENCE MASTER FELLOWSHIPS

The Faculty of Science of the University of Geneva is an internationally recognised leading research institution. The Faculty of Science, with the support of external partners, has established an Excellence Fellowship program open to outstanding and highly motivated students who wish to pursue a Master of Science degree in one of the disciplines covered by the Faculty. Candidate selection is based on excellence.

ELIGIBILITY:

Regardless of your home university, whether you have passed or are doing a brilliant bachelor degree, and that you are one of the best in your year, this program is for you! You must meet the admission criteria of the Master of your choice and be selected on the basis of the application file for an Excellence Fellowship.

For the application to be considered, each student has to fulfill the enrollment procedure as described on the Admissions office website.

A scan of your UNIGE card or, if you are not yet a UNIGE student, the mail named “UNIGE-Application: Submission of your application” which you received after registering for the Master (proof you have started the matriculation process) is requested.

The application (in English or French) must include the following documents in the form of a SINGLE pdf file:

A scan of your national identity card or passport.

A Curriculum Vitae (2 pages maximum).

The transcript of exams passed during the bachelor education, with all grades.

A motivation letter in which you describe your specific scientific interests and your motivation to pursue a Master of Science program at the University of Geneva.

If possible: Letters of references from two professors (preferably sent by them directly to Excellence-Master-Sciences@unige.ch) attesting your aptitude to this program.

Any other pertinent information like results of GRE (General requirement examination), of TOEFL or other language test.

The application is made online, from the beginning of January of each year. After registering, you will receive an e-mail containing a personal link allowing you to fill out the application form.

Next application deadline is 28 February, 2025 (for Masters starting September 15, 2025).

BENEFIT:

The Excellence Fellowship consists of a grant amounting to CHF 10’000 to CHF 15’000/year (no teaching duties); it is awarded for one year and extended for the regular duration of the chosen Master’s program (three or four semesters) provided the applicant is academically successful at the end of his/her first semester of studies.

KINSHIP CONSERVATION FELLOWSHIP

The Kinship Conservation Fellowship supports conservation practitioners across the globe. The program is designed to advance your career and equip you with new skills, insights, and analytical tools to accelerate the projects you lead at home.

The month-long, in-residence fellowship focuses on market-based solutions in conservation and cultivates your leadership skills in the sector.

ELIGIBLITY:

They’re looking for conservation leaders with at least five years of on-the-ground experience in conservation, who are involved with the implementation of market-based approaches to solve environmental problems and ready to be part of an expanding community of global leaders.

Fellowship applications include a project proposal that outlines an environmental issue related to the applicant’s work and details their plans to develop a solution using market approaches.

During the Fellowship, the cohort will collaborate on group projects, building upon the group’s collective expertise and proposed projects, as well as ideas from the curriculum and faculty.

Successful applicants will be familiar with business and economic principles and work in a setting where these principles can be integrated with conservation work. Each year 18 applicants are selected to participate in the Fellowship program.

In order to be considered for the program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Possess a minimum of a four-year U.S. college degree (or its equivalent).

Have a minimum of five years relevant work experience aftercompleting a degree.

Be proficient in spoken and written English.

Be a conservation practitioner (rather than an academic or researcher).

BENEFIT:

For attending the Fellowship in Bellingham, WA, Fellows receive a stipend of US$8,000, net of customary U.S. tax withholding. All Fellows are responsible for paying their own applicable local, state and federal taxes in respect of the stipend.
