WEST AFRICAN RESEARCH CENTER TRAVEL GRANT

The WARC Travel Grant promotes intra-African cooperation and exchange among researchers and institutions by providing support to African scholars and graduate students for research visits to other institutions and regions on the continent.  

ELIGIBILITY:

This competition is open only to West African nationals, with priority given to those affiliated with West African colleges, universities, or research institutions.

Abstract (50-80 words) of proposed activity with a clear statement of purpose

Project/Research description (6 double-spaced pages maximum) including why travel is necessary (must be in  language understandable to non-specialist readers)

Proposed budget

Curriculum vitae (with research and teaching record)

Photocopy of the applicant’s passport (must be a West African national)

All applications must be submitted online in PDF documents

All applicants must have a recommendation letter.

If visiting another institution:
– invitation from host institution

If travel is to consult archives or other materials:
– a description of the collections to be consulted and their significance to the applicant’s research

If you are a graduate student:
– letter of recommendation from professor overseeing your research

BENEFIT:

The WARC Travel Grant provides travel costs up to $1,500 and a stipend of $1,500.

Travel grant funds may be used to:
visit libraries or archives located in Africa with resources necessary to the applicant’s academic work

engage in collaborative work with colleagues at another African institution

travel to a research site in Africa

GLOBAL MENTAL HEALTH POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP AT HARVARD MEDICAL SCHOOL AND AGA KHAN UNIVERSITY

LOCATION: Year 1: Havard Medical School, Boston USA;

Year 2: Aga Khan University – East Africa/ South and Central Asia

The Program supports post-doctoral research fellows in conducting implementation science research designed to translate prevention, assessment, and treatment interventions to specific settings and vulnerable populations in low- and middle- income countries.

ELIGIBILITY:

The Fellowship Program is open to individuals who have received their PhD or completed their MD with a research thesis degree by December 01, 2023. Additionally, applicants should have a record of academic achievement (for example, prior peer-reviewed publications), and have demonstrated a commitment to pursuing a career in global mental health research, particularly in service to the geographies served by Aga Khan University and the Aga Khan Development Network. The Fellowship Program is open to any qualified candidate.

Personal statement of no more than1,000 words addressing the candidate’s passion for a career in impactful research on mental health in LMICs, or how the candidate demonstrates commitment to the issues and countries where they plan to carry out future work.

Writing samples or publication examples (no more than three total)

Names and contact information for three references.

Confirmation of completion of an MD with a research thesis degree or award of a PhD by December 01, 2023. ​
