THE CLUB OF ROME COMMUNICATIONS FELLOWSHIP

The Club of Rome is currently accepting applications for its Communications Fellowship 2024.  The fellowship is a full-time six-month mentoring programme aimed at increasing the diversity of voices covering sustainability issues and supporting early-career communications professionals who are from underrepresented communities and regions.

ELIGIBILITY:

A Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in science or journalism, and/or current student or graduate of a science journalism program. 

Some experience in writing about systems thinking or sustainability research for non-specialist audiences via blogs, newspapers, university websites or other outlets. 

Written and oral fluency in English and a proven ability to understand complex scientific research or systems thinking. 

Experience with, or interest in, social media, video, photography or other multimedia. 

Alignment with the beliefs and vision of The Club of Rome.

Applicants from all countries are welcome, but priority will be given to citizens or residents of countries/regions underrepresented in sustainability communications.  

BENEFIT:

There is a modest stipend for the six-month fellowship and 10 days paid leave. The fellows will be working Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week and should be available for meetings in the Central European Timezone. The fellowship is planned to run from 1 July 2024 – 31 January 2025. 

The successful fellows will be integrated into The Club of Rome communications team, working remotely from their home environment and with one trip to meet members of The Club of Rome team (likely in Europe). The fellowship offers a modest stipend towards living costs and includes work-related travel costs.

THE ADVANCED EARTH AND SPACE SCIENCES DAVID PERLMAN AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN SCIENCE JOURNALISM

The David Perlman Award for Excellence in Science Journalism – News is an annual award recognizing excellence in science news reporting, defined as work prepared with a deadline of one week or less. It is presented annually to a journalist or a group of journalists for a news story or series in any medium, except books, that makes information about the Earth and space sciences accessible and interesting to the general public

ELIGIBILITY:

The nominee(s) must:

be a journalist working in any medium, except books

be an author or contributor of the submitted report

be a freelance journalist OR employed with a print/electronic publication or broadcast/cable station or network

submit only one entry for the award in a given year

not have won the Perlman award during the past two years.

In addition:

Groups of up to four authors/contributors may be included in the nomination.

Self-nominations are accepted.

Nominees are not required to be AGU members.

Nominators are not required to be AGU members.

All parties must be in compliance with AGU’s conflict of interest and professional conduct policies.

Recognition at AGU’s annual meeting the year the honor is awarded

Paid travel expenses up to $1,000
