MASTERCARD FOUNDATION SCHOLARS PROGRAM AT MAKERERE UNIVERSITY.

Makerere University is pleased to announce the first Cohort of 95 undergraduate and 05 Master’s scholarship opportunities to nationals, refugees, internally displaced youth, and international students joining Makerere University in the Academic Year 2024/2025 under the Private Sponsorship Scheme of Makerere University.

ELIGIBILITY:

To be eligible to apply for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University, the following conditions must be met:

The applicant must be qualifying for admission at Makerere University’s main campus under the Private Sponsorship Scheme. Therefore, all applicants should apply for admission at Makerere University, main campus under the Private Sponsorship Scheme (when advertised). Once admitted to Makerere University’s main campus, then your application for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program scholarship at Makerere University shall be considered for the due selection processes.

The Applicant must have completed the Advanced level education (or its equivalent) in an African country.

The Applicant should provide evidence of significant financial hardship.

The Applicant should not be a holder of any other scholarship, including the Government Scholarship.

The Applicant should not have completed any undergraduate studies.

The Applicant must have served as a leader and with a record of community service.

The Applicant should be at the age of 28 years or younger at the time of the deadline of the application.

Applicants under the categories of Refugees, IDPs, and Students with Disabilities should be 32 years of age or younger at the time of the deadline of the application.

BENEFIT:

The second phase of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University’s main campus in Kampala, Uganda will provide 1000 fully funded scholarships for 10 years at both the undergraduate (Bachelor’s degree) and graduate (Master’s degree) academic program levels. The scholarships are awarded to academically talented young men and women from Sub-Saharan Africa facing financial constraints to pursue their academic studies.

UNESCO/POLAND CO-SPONSORED FELLOWSHIPS IN ENGINEERING

Application Deadline: Friday, 10 May 2024, 12pm Paris time.

With a view to promoting human resource capacities in the developing countries and to enhancing international understanding and friendship among nations and peoples , the Polish National Commission for UNESCO and the UNESCO Chair for Science, Technology, and Engineering at the AGH University of Krakow (Poland) are placing at the disposal of UNESCO thirty (30) fellowships for the benefit of a number of developing Member States . Beneficiaries of these fellowships will be given the opportunity to undertake an individual research programme in the field of Science, Technology and Engineering for a duration of 6 months between 1 October 2024 and 31 March 2025.

ELIGIBILITY:

Applicants must hold the Bachelor’s or M.Sc. degrees. Applicants from outside the home country will often need to meet specific English language/other language requirements in order to be able to study there.

Candidates should have a Bachelor of Eng (B.Eng) or a Master of Engineering (M.Eng) degree,

Be proficient in reading and writing in English

No more than 40 year-old

Number and Duration of Awards: The fellowship will last for 6 months and take place at the AGH University of Krakow, UNESCO AGH Chair (A. Mickiewicza Ave 30, PL 30-059 Krakow, Poland). 

BENEFIT:

Facilities Offered by the Polish authorities:

Free tuition and access to the university facilities based on the local regulations.

Monthly allowance of 1800 PLN for BSc degree students and 2200 PLN for MSc degree students (1 USD = approximately 4 PLN). All living expenses and accommodation in Poland are to be borne by the fellow with this allowance; 

A one-time special allowance of 1800 PLN for BSc degree students or 2200 PLN for MSc degree students to be paid upon arrival in Poland (for 6 months stay period). This sum will cover different activities related to your stay in Krakow, such as an obligatory medical check-up upon arrival (in accordance with the internal regulations for all students); cultural, historical and/or touristic visits, conferences, workshops, and seminars related to your studies.

Facilities Offered by UNESCO:

International travel expenses (by the most direct, economical route): from the beneficiary’s country to and from Poland will be covered by UNESCO;

Health insurance for fellowship beneficiaries who are declared medically fit: UNESCO fellowship holders may be covered by a health insurance policy, taken-out by the Organization for the duration of fellowship. UNESCO will subscribe the health insurance on behalf of awarded fellows and cover the cost incurred.;

One-time special pocket allowance of US$120 (one hundred and twenty US dollars).
