UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

LOCATION: USA

Graduate assistantships (GA) are an excellent way to obtain funding for graduate education. USF provides these positions to qualified students on a competitive basis.

ELIGIBILITY:

Both the Office of Graduate Studies and the university allocate financial resources to support full-time, degree-seeking graduate students. You must meet the following eligibility requirements to receive an assistantship:

Accepted into a graduate degree program and meet the qualifications as specified by the graduate program

Meet the academic qualifications as specified by the GA job code

Meet appropriate verbal test scores, if English is not your primary language

Maintain a minimum overall grade point average (GPA) and degree program GPA of 3.00

Enroll full-time during the semester(s) appointed as a graduate assistant

Full-time enrollment (Fall): 9 graduate credit hours

Full-time enrollment (Spring): 9 graduate credit hours

Full-time enrollment (Summer): 6 graduate credit hours

If a GA is enrolled in the last semester of their program of study, they may be registered for fewer credit hours than the full-time requirement.

To retain their assistantship, GAs must comply with all Office of Graduate Studies enrollment requirements as stated in the Polices section of the Office of Graduate Studies Catalog.

Students appointed with <0.25 total FTE are not eligible for tuition waivers.

BENEFIT:

GAs may teach, conduct research, or have other responsibilities that contribute to the student’s professional development. All graduate assistants are employed by USF and work under a contract negotiated by Graduate Assistants United (GAU) and the USF Board of Trustees. The GAU is the labor union certified as the exclusive bargaining agent for graduate assistants at USF.

Graduate assistantships are typically awarded through a specific graduate program/department or college.

The number of GA positions that are available in a given college or department is based on funding from the university, as well as grants awarded to individual faculty.

Contact the Graduate Program Director in your department of study to determine if your graduate program awards GA positions and the specific eligibility requirements.

MONASH UNIVERSITY MALAYSIA GRADUATE RESEARCH EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP (NEW STUDENTS)

The Graduate Research Excellence Scholarship (GRES)—New Students at Monash University Malaysia is a competitive merit-based scholarship designed for outstanding students commencing a master’s by research or PhD. Selection is based on academic excellence, research achievements, and prior research experience, with no separate scholarship application required, as eligible applicants are automatically considered during admission

ELIGIBILITY:

New graduate research students enrolling at Monash Malaysia.

Current graduate research students at Monash Malaysia in their first year of enrolment.

Applicants must possess a minimum academic qualification of First Class Honours (H1) or its equivalence (H1E) recognized by Monash Malaysia.

Applicants must meet the minimum admission (academic and English language proficiency) and scholarship eligibility requirements as published on the website for the relevant research degree and be enrolled or provided an offer to study at Monash University Malaysia.

The award of scholarships is based on an applicant’s academic record, research output, and/or prior research experience.

Applicants must not have completed a graduate research master’s or doctoral degree at the same course level (for example, are applying to undertake a second doctoral degree).

Applicants who receive a scholarship/financial assistance from an external sponsor(s) must obtain prior approval from the Scholarship office. The scholarship office will confirm that there are no contradictory conditions from the sponsors. Consent from both MUM and sponsor(s) is required.

Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis.

New Students: When you apply for admission into your preferred degree program you will be able to select your scholarship type. No separate application is required.

BENEFIT:

Each scholarship comes with a full tuition fee waiver and a monthly stipend of MYR2,950 (in 2026) as follows:

Research master’s degree—two years full-time equivalent from the date of course commencement.

Doctoral degree—Three years and six months full-time equivalent from the date of course commencement until the scholarship end date or upon thesis submission, whichever is earlier.
