MACQUARIE UNIVERSITY INTERNATIONAL ROAD TO RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP

The Road to Research Scholarship is for international onshore applicants who are eligible to commence the Macquarie Master of Research (MRes) in Sydney, Australia in Session 1 2027.

This scholarship supports students undertaking short research projects for the Master of Research (MRes).

ELIGIBILITY:

Awards will only be available to applicants who, at the time of application:

Are not an Australian/New Zealand citizen or an australian permanent resident

Are onshore in australia at the time of application

Intend to reside in sydney, Australia, during their candidature

Plan to undertake a master of research in january 2027 (s1 2027)

Are enrolling as full-time students

Meet the english language requirements for macquarie graduate research degrees

Meet the admission criteria for the master of research (refer to schedule 2.3)

Have confirmation of supervision from an eligible macquarie university researcher (compulsory for fmhhs and desirable for the other faculties)

International applicants will need a valid student visa in order to commence their program. If they do not have a valid student visa, they may commence their study on an alternative Australian visa type that permits full-time study until the end of June 2028.

BENEFIT:

Stipend value (direct payment): $39,700 p.a. (2026 rate)

The scholarship comprises:

A tuition fee offset for a maximum of one year

A living allowance stipend of $39,700 for one year (2026 rate).

RMIT INTERNATIONAL TUITION FEE SCHOLARSHIPS

LOCATION: Australia

RMIT offers two international tuition fee scholarships: the RTP International Fee Offset Scholarship (RIFOS) and the RMIT Research International Tuition Fee Scholarship (RRITFS).

RIFOS scholarships are funded by the Australian Government and RRITFS scholarships are funded by RMIT University. When you apply for a research scholarship through one of the University’s rounds, you will automatically be considered for all the scholarships for which you are eligible.

ELIGIBILITY:

This scholarship is for PhD or Master’s by Research students only. To be considered for a scholarship, you must hold, or be currently completing:

A Master’s by research

A Master’s by coursework with a significant research component graded as high distinction, or equivalent

an Honours degree achieving first-class honours

A 4-year bachelor’s degree achieving a GPA of 4 or equivalent (80% or above)

Publications or significant research experience that could be considered equivalent.

International applicants applying for scholarship must be in receipt of an RMIT program offer for the relevant enrollment period by the close of the scholarship round to be considered.

You must have been offered a program place that is not conditional on meeting English language requirements,

or

You must provide evidence of English language proficiency and meet the English language requirement of the research program before the application closing date of the scholarship round.

In addition to the above, to be eligible for this scholarship you must:

not already hold a PhD or equivalent, if applying for a PhD

not already hold a Master by research or equivalent, if applying for a Master by research program.

As the holder of this scholarship you:

must commence your studies in the scholarship commencement period in which you are applying

are not able to defer your studies to another year. If a deferral is required, you must apply again the following year if you are unable to take up your award.

Value and Duration:

Both RIFOS and RRITFS scholarships provide tuition fees for a period of 4 years for PhD students, and two years for Masters by Research candidates.

The cost of Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of your visa is also provided if you have been awarded both a centrally funded RMIT stipend scholarship and a tuition fee scholarship.

If you are awarded a tuition fee scholarship, your scholarship will be partnered with a stipend scholarship, which will provide you with a living allowance.
