ONE WORLD MEDIA CLIMATE REPORTING GAP FELLOWSHIP

Surge Africa and One World Media have partnered to run a new Fellowship focused on climate and energy transition stories in Nigeria. Are you a Nigerian journalist passionate about making complex climate issues accessible and relevant to your community? One World Media, in partnership with Surge Africa, is thrilled to launch a new opportunity as part of The Climate Reporting Gap Initiative.

ELIGIBILITY:

Journalists and filmmakers from Nigeria are reporting in Nigeria.

For mid-career and experienced applicants with at least 3-5 years of experience in their field.

Applicants don’t need to have a background in climate finance, but an interest in telling stories about the climate crisis and energy transitions and a strong background in journalism and/or their chosen medium.

They’re particularly keen to hear creative proposals that cover an underreported story or hear from people who are often unheard and offer unexpected or rare access.

The Fellowship will offer in-depth training and mentoring to help guide the projects editorially and practically. Fellows will take part in an in-person training in Nigeria and online workshops through the programme, as well as a trip to Colombia for a curated training on participatory reporting by our partner organization, Mutante. 

All projects will have an assigned mentor, and Fellows will be asked to join regular check-ins as they work towards delivery milestones.

Proposed articles must be up to 2000 words, audio pieces up to 30 minutes, and films up to 10 minutes.

All projects must be completed by June 2026.

ACI FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIP AND SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS

The ACI Foundation is currently offering 49 fellowships and scholarships for high-potential students in concrete-related graduate and undergraduate degree programs.

The next application cycle will open on July 1, 2025

ELIGIBILITY:

Fellowship:

The award cycle for this application period is the 2026 fall semester through the 2027 spring semester.

ACI Foundation fellowships can be awarded to international students; however, you must attend an institution in the U.S., Canada, or Mexico during the award cycle.

Some of the fellowships expect the awardee to complete a 10- to 12-week internship during the summer of 2026.

Those applicants chosen as a finalist for an ACI Foundation fellowship will be notified by February 2026 and must be available to attend an interview with the Scholarship Council on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at the spring ACI Concrete Convention. The ACI Foundation will pay for the flight, hotel, and registration and will include a travel stipend.

All applicants must be proficient in the English language. If English is not your native language, you can upload a copy of your TOEFL score to your application. This is optional and not required.

The educational stipend is paid in two equal installments over the course of one year directly to the student to cover expenses related to tuition, room and board, books, student fees, etc. Receipt of stipends is contingent upon attendance at scheduled ACI Concrete Conventions during the award cycle.

Fellowship awardees are expected to submit a written report near the end of their fellowship period describing the value of the fellowship to their personal development and to their preparation for their chosen career after graduation.

Scholarships:

ACI Foundation scholarships can be awarded to international students unless an award sponsor has a specific requirement for area or region of study.

The award cycle for this application period is the 2026 fall semester through the 2027 spring semester.

To be eligible for a graduate scholarship, you must be a full-time student in a master’s or PhD program during the entire award cycle. Applicants must not have exceeded their second year of a master’s program or fourth year of a PhD program.

To be eligible for an undergraduate scholarship, the applicant must be a full-time undergraduate at the time of applying for and during the entire award cycle.

The scholarship stipend is paid in two equal installments over one year to the financial aid/registrar office of the institution where the study program will be pursued. These funds will then be deposited into the recipient’s educational institution account.

$10,000 USD educational stipend for tuition, residence, books, and materials;

Appropriate recognition in Concrete International magazine and on the Foundation website;

Paid travel expenses and attendance fees to two ACI conventions (must be used during the award year). Fellowship finalists must attend the Spring ACI Convention to be interviewed.

Matched with an industry mentor.

Scholarships:

Appropriate recognition in Concrete International magazine and on the Foundation website.
