2026/27 PTDF IN-COUNTRY SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME (ISS) FOR UNDERGRADUATE AND POSTGRADUATE AWARDS

LOCATION: Nigeria

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) is a federal government agency with the mandate of developing indigenous human capacity and petroleum technology to meet the needs of the oil and gas industry. The Fund hereby invites applications from interested and qualified Nigerians to apply for the 2026/27 Undergraduate, Master’s and PhD scholarships in Nigerian public universities only.

ELIGIBILITY:

ISS Undergraduate:

Applicants must be full-time students in any of the public universities.

Applicants must be presently in the 200 level in their field of study.

The course of study should be related to the oil and gas industry and management, as advertised.

Applicants must possess 5 credits in WAEC/SSCE/NECO, including English Language and Mathematics.

Applicants must possess a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.4 on a scale of 5.0 (i.e., Second Class Lower).

Applicants should provide their transcripts for the first year of study (transcripts must be signed and stamped by the HOD, Exams Officer, or any authorized personnel in the university).

Undergraduate applicants who meet the above requirements are to upload the following documents:

Evidence of WAEC/SSCE/NECO results with at least 5 credits, including English Language and Mathematics (not more than 2 sittings, and the first sitting result must be uploaded).

Letter of admission into the university.

First-year academic transcript(s), duly signed and stamped by the HOD, Exams Officer, or any authorized personnel.

Certificate of indigeneship (evidence of state of origin and local government).

A personal statement of a minimum of 300 words stating reasons for undertaking the course of study.

ISS MSc (Requirements for Application):

Applicants must possess a full-time admission letter into any of the Public Universities.

A minimum of Second-Class Lower (2:2) in an oil and gas-related field.

The course of study should be related to the oil and gas/management industry.

Applicants must possess at least 5 credits in WAEC/SSCE/NECO results (not more than 2 sittings, and the two results must precede the first degree).

National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate or letter of exemption.

Certificate of indigeneship (evidence of state of origin and local government).

A personal statement of a minimum of 1,000 words stating reasons for undertaking the course of study.

PhD ISS (Requirements for Application):

Applicants must possess a full-time admission letter into any of the Public Universities.

A minimum of Second Class Lower (2:2) in an oil and gas/management-related field.

A minimum of merit in a second-degree certificate in an oil-and-gas-related discipline.

Applicants must possess at least 5 credits in WAEC/SSCE/NECO results (not more than 2 sittings, and the two results must precede the first degree).

National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate or letter of exemption.

Certificate of indigeneship (evidence of state of origin and local government).

The research area must be relevant to the oil and gas industry.

A PhD research proposal of not more than 6 pages. The proposal template can be accessed via the applicant’s profile on the PTDF Scholarship Management Portal.

    MTN FOUNDATION SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP (MTN STS) AND MTN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP FOR BLIND STUDENTS (MTN SBS)

    LOCATION: Nigeria

    The MTN Foundation Science and Technology Scholarship (MTN STS) since 2010, has been open to eligible 300-level students studying Science & Technology-related courses, in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education).

    Since its inception in 2012, the MTN Foundation Scholarship for Blind Students (MTN SBS) has been dedicated to supporting eligible blind students in 200 and 300 level courses across Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions, including Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education.

    ELIGIBILITY:

    Institution of Study:

    MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS): The MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS) is open to Nigerian students in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institution (Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education).

    MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS): The MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS) is open to Nigerian students in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institution (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education).

    Course of Study:

    MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS): The MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS) is open to 300 level students studying Science & Technology related courses, and 400 level medical students in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education).

    MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS): The MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS) is open to 200 & 300 level Blind students studying any course in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education).

    Level of Study:

    MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS): The application is open to students who have completed their second semester 200 level examinations going to 300 level and students currently in their 300 level, as we understand that the academic calendar is not aligned across all public tertiary institutions.

    The application is open to medical students who have completed their second semester 300 level examinations going to the 400 level and those currently in their 400 level.

    The MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS): The application is open to 200 & 300 level blind students in any Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education). However, for blind students studying Law, which is a 5 years course, only 300 level students can apply for the MTN Scholarship.

    Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA):

    The MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS): STEM Students in Public Universities, and Colleges of Education must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) score of 3.0/4 or 3.5/5 (second class upper credit)

    STEM Students in Public Polytechnics must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0 (upper credit) from the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) Program and must have secured admission into the Higher National Diploma (HND) Program.

    Direct Entry level STEM students must have a minimum CGPA of 3.0 (upper credit) from the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) program and must have secured admission into 300 level/3rd year in a Public University.

    Medical students in Public Universities and Teaching Hospitals must a minimum of Pass grade or equivalent score.

    MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS): Blind Students in the Universities or Colleges of Education must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.5

    Blind Students in Public Polytechnics must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0 from the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) Program and must have secured admission into the Higher National Diploma (HND) Program.

    BENEFIT:

    MTN Foundation Science and Technology Scholarship (MTN STS): The 2026 edition will see 400 students awarded scholarships worth N300,000.00 until graduation upon meeting grade and upskilling requirements.

    MTN Foundation Scholarship for Blind Students (MTN SBS): 100 students are awarded scholarships worth N300,000 annually. Scholarships are awarded annually until graduation, provided that students meet the required academic standards.
