THE WAHLGRENSKA FOUNDATION – A CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR RESEARCH FUNDING FOR MEDIA SCHOLARS

The Wahlgrenska Foundation announces research funding for media researchers This year, the Wahlgrenska Foundation is announcing six general scholarships of SEK 100,000 each.

ELIGIBILITY:

Applications from younger researchers with a doctorate with well-defined projects are prioritized. This may include studies of the conditions of the mass media—such as the press, radio, TV, or computer media of various kinds—their production conditions, content, and forms of expression, as well as their distribution and significance for society and for people’s thinking and daily life. The perspective can be local, national, or transnational and relate to history, the present, or the future.

The foundation requires high scientific quality in applications and documented research capacity from applicants. In addition to a research plan, the applicant must attach a CV with copies of diplomas and a list of publications, as well as contact information for two references. Scholarships can also be applied for by researchers working outside Sweden.

The application must be submitted digitally no later than September 18, 2026, to Fredrik Jacobsson: fredrik.jacobsson@luterkort.se . The decision on the grant will be made in October 2026. The final report on how the scholarship has been used must be submitted no later than
December 31, 2029.

CANON JAPAN-AFRICA FELLOWSHIPS  PROGRAMME

LOCATION: Japan


The Japan-Africa Programme offers grants to postgraduate scholars from Japan and Africa who want to do research in African Studies in Africa and Japan, respectively.

ELIGIBILITY:

The Programme is intended to support 1) Researchers from Japan to carry out research at institutes in African universities, and 2) Researchers from Africa to carry out research at institutes in Japanese universities.

The proposed research prioritizes people-to-people projects that support development in Africa through scientific research and bilateral knowledge exchange.

Fellowships are for a minimum period of 6-8 weeks up to a maximum of 1 year.

It is also possible to split up the time spent abroad.

The application period is from 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2027.

BENEFIT:

Financial support for successful applicants ranges from 22,500 euros to 27,500 euros per year and is pro-rated for different periods.
