YENCHING ACADEMY OF PEKING UNIVERSITY MASTER’S SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Yenching Academy annually enrolls approximately 120 new students from both the Chinese Mainland and abroad to study, live, and learn together. International students comprise roughly 75% of the student body.

ELIGIBILITY:

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in any field, or be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program with the expectation of receiving their diploma in August of the intended enrollment year;

An outstanding academic record;

Strong interest in interdisciplinary study of China;

A record of extracurricular achievement, community engagement, social responsibility, and leadership potential;

English proficiency.

*Peking University does not allow students to be enrolled in other degree programs whilst studying at the university.

Candidates may apply through Yenching Academy’s online application portal. Each applicant will create an account on the Yenching Academy admissions portal and submit the following materials in English:

Completed online application form; 

Personal statement (750 words or less);

Statement of Research Interest (maximum 1500 words, excluding citations);

Curriculum Vitae;

Official transcript(s);

Diploma(s) or Certificate(s) of Enrollment;

Two academic letters of recommendation (Chinese or English):

Peking University will only accept recommendation letters written by full professors or associate professors (or equivalent titles). Letters of recommendation must be submitted by professors in the applicant’s intended field of study.

English requirements and minimum scores*:

IELTS (Academic): Overall 7.0

TOEFL (iBT): Overall 100

Cambridge English Scale (Advanced): Overall 185

CET 6: Overall 600

TEM 4: Pass level of “良好” or above

International applicants whose native language is English, or have graduated from an English-taught degree program (undergraduate or above) are not required to provide an English proficiency test report. Applicants from China’s Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan regions (HMT) are required to provide an English proficiency test report, even if they have attended or graduated from an English-taught degree program. Without providing an English proficiency test report, candidates from these regions will need to take English as a Second Language after enrollment at Peking University. For applicants from the Chinese Mainland, an English proficiency test report is a compulsory application material.

Accommodation in the Yenching Academy House

A travel stipend for one round-trip journey between your base city and Beijing (the base city must be a city within the country of your nationality; the cost of this round-trip will be estimated and calculated by YCA).

Basic medical insurance

A monthly stipend, and

Expenses related to research.

Students who maintained a good academic standing and plan to stay in Beijing during their second academic year can apply for the second-year Yenching Fellowship. This will cover the tuition, accommodation support (on-campus house or off-campus housing stipend), basic medical insurance, and a monthly stipend.

DOHA INSTITUTE FOR GRADUATE STUDIES MASTERS PROGRAMS AND DOCTORAL STUDIES SCHOLARSHIPS

Tamim Scholarship: The Doha Institute for Graduate Studies offers the Tamim Scholarship to outstanding students from within the State of Qatar and abroad. It is awarded to students admitted to the institute’s master’s programs, in accordance with its policies and criteria.

ELIGIBILITY:

Master’s Program

Following the issuance of admission decisions, admitted students are contacted and invited to apply for the scholarship. 

Applicants may be required to submit additional documents or information when necessary. 

​The scholarship may not be combined with any other scholarship, regardless of its source. 

Continuation of the scholarship is contingent upon maintaining the required academic standing. 

The scholarship does not cover Executive Master’s programs, diplomas, or specialized certificate programs. 

Applicants who have previously received a scholarship to study a master’s program at the Institute—whether or not they completed the degree—are not eligible. ​


Doctoral Studies

Scholarship Types

The scholarship of the first phase of Doctoral Studies: This scholarship is granted according to eligibility and based on the criteria set forth below.

The scholarship of the second phase, which is a full-time reading of the prospectus. Obtaining it is linked to achieving a GPA of no less than 3.5 in the courses of the first phase.

Scholarship of the third phase, which is to prepare for the dissertation. Obtaining it is linked to passing the comprehensive examination​.

​​All admitted students can apply for a scholarship through the scholarship application form. The Admissions Office sends the application form to all eligible students. Students are given the opportunity to submit the application with all official and required documents.​​

A student shall not combine the Institute’s scholarship and any other scholarship, whatever its source, except with the prior approval of the Doctoral Studies. Board

Students who have obtained a full scholarship must commit, in return, to working for the Institute in the fields of research, teaching, and any other fields that are required of them, for not less than ten hours per week during the semester. The working hours of the partial grantees are determined in proportion to the value of the scholarship, on condition that it does not exceed 15 hours per week.

In consultation with the programs and colleges, the Doctoral Studies Board determines the required fields of work. To continue to benefit from the Institute’s scholarships, the obligations specified above must be fulfilled.

BENEFIT:

Master’s Program: The Tamim Scholarship provides the following benefits, depending on the student category:

For Qatari students: Awarded to Qatari students who are not sponsored by a government entity or their employer. 

For resident students: Partial tuition waiver ranging from 10% to 100%, based on the student’s financial need. 

For international students:

Full tuition waiver (100%). 

Student housing. 

Monthly stipend. 

Health insurance. 

Doctoral Studies: The scholarship covers two academic years, which can be extended by submitting a reasoned extension request and obtaining the approvals of the Director of the Doctoral Studies Board and the Vice President for Academic Affairs.​
