TWAS-ICCBS POSTGRADUATE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME

Application Deadline: 14 August 2025 (midnight CEST time)

LOCATION: Pakistan

The International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) — comprising the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry and the Dr. Panjwani Centre for Molecular and Drug Research in Karachi, Pakistan — and TWAS offer fellowships to young scientists from developing countries (other than Pakistan) who wish to pursue research towards a PhD in chemical and biological sciences.

ELIGIBILITY:

Applicants for these fellowships must meet the following criteria:

Be a maximum age of 35 years on 31 December of the application year.

hold a Master’s degree in a field of natural sciences;

Be nationals of a developing country (other than Pakistan);

must not hold any visa for temporary or permanent residency in Pakistan or any developed country;

provide a certificate of good health from a qualified medical doctor;

Be registered PhD students in their home country and provide the “Registration and No Objection Certificate” from the HOME university (see sample that can be downloaded below or included in the online application form);

Provide an official Preliminary Acceptance Letter from ICCBS (see the sample preliminary acceptance letter that can be downloaded below or included in the online application form). Requests for acceptance must be directed to the Director of ICCBS (Prof. Dr. Raza Shah at raza.shah@iccs.edu or protocol.iccbs@iccs.edu) who will facilitate assignment of a host supervisor. In contacting Prof. Dr. Raza Shah, applicants must accompany their request for a preliminary acceptance letter with copy of their CV and a research proposal outline and two reference letters;

Provide evidence of proficiency in English, if medium of education was not English. Candidates are encouraged to refer to the following resources to test their level of English:

provide evidence that s/he will return to her/his home country on completion of the fellowship;

not take up other assignments during the period of her/his fellowship;

Be financially responsible for any accompanying family members.

The language of instruction is English.

BENEFIT:

ICCBS will provide a monthly stipend, which should be used to cover living costs, such as food, accommodation, local transportation, and incidental minor illness. The monthly stipend will not be convertible into foreign currency.

NIKON SMALL WORLD PHOTOMICROGRAPHY CONTEST

LOCATION: USA

The Nikon Small World Photomicrography Competition is open to anyone with an interest in microscopy and photography through the microscope. The video competition, entitled Small World In Motion encompasses any movie or digital time-lapse photography taken through the microscope.

If you are interested in entering the competition, you are invited to set up a Small World Entrant Account, which will allow you to create a profile, view your entries and update your images and videos before the submission deadline. If you don’t wish to register for an account, you may still enter the competition as a guest.

ELIGIBILITY:

The Nikon Small World Photomicrography Competition (the “Competition”) is open only to individuals who are at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of entry and have access to a light microscope.

Entry is free

The following individuals are not eligible to enter the Competition:

employees of Nikon Instruments Inc., Shaw & Todd, Inc., their respective parent companies and affiliated companies, and/or the immediate family (spouse, parents, siblings and children) and household members of each such employee,

the Competition Judges, regardless of the date of appointment, and/or their immediate family and household members, and/or

individuals engaged (as a business owner or employee) in the manufacture, distribution, and/or sale of microscopes, related accessories, and/or photographic equipment.

During the Competition Entry Period, visit www.nikonsmallworld.com (the “Website”) and Follow the links and instructions to complete the Competition entry form (the “Entry Form”), including your name, telephone number, email address, a valid home address (P.O. Boxes are not permitted), country, the school, institution or other organization the Entrant is affiliated with (the “Affiliation”) and the address of such Affiliation, the type, make and model of the equipment used to capture the entry(ies) submitted to this Competition, a description of each image submitted, and other information requested by Sponsor (collectively, the “Registration Information”);

Upload up to three (3) photomicrographic digital images taken by the Entrant (collectively, the “Images”) to the Entry Form.

BENEFIT:

Top prize winners are selected and ranked by Small World Judges.

 1st Prize – USD $3,000

 2nd Prize – USD $2,000

 3rd Prize – USD $1,000

 4th Prize – USD $800

 5th Prize – USD $600

 6th Prize – USD $500

 7th-10th Prizes – USD $400 each

 11th-20th Prizes – USD $300 each

Honorable Mentions – USD $200 each. The number of Honorable Mention Prizes will be determined by the Judges in their sole discretion.

Images of Distinction – One (1) Nikon-branded promotional item, having a retail value of approximately Thirty-Five (USD$35.00) Dollars (the “Premium Item”). The number of Images of Distinction Prizes will be determined by the Judges in their sole discretion. Nikon may in its sole discretion, provide the winner with a Gift Card (defined below) in the amount of Thirty-Five (USD$35.00) Dollars, in substitution of the Premium Item.
