AFRICAN YOUNG WOMEN LEADERS (AFYWL) FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME 2025

You are invited to apply to the AUC-UNDP African Young Women Leaders (AfYWL) Fellowship Programme – a partnership between the African Union Commission and the United Nations Development Programme.

The African Young Women Leaders Fellowship Programme offers an interesting 12-month assignment with UNDP at its HQ in New York or in one of its regional or country offices. There will be no placement in hardship locations.  

ELIGIBILITY:

Education: Completed Master’s degree or equivalent in Economics, Political Science, Business Administration, International Relations/Development, Law, Communications, Digitalization or other related development field. 
Experience: Maximum cumulative two years (post bachelor/postmaster degree) of relevant and paid working experience in research, analysis and programme/project development, implementation and management. 
Language Requirements: Strong working knowledge of English is required

Proficiency in at least one additional AU working language (Arabic, English, French, Portuguese or Spanish) is an advantage

National of an African Union member state  

Maximum Age of 30 at the date of application.

Available in 2025/2026 to dedicate 12 months for a fellowship assignment.

Available late 2025 to relocate to duty station and start the Fellowship assignment.

Willing to live and work outside country of residence on an assignment which leverages on your skills & potential.

Understanding of, and interest in, poverty eradication, sustainable structural transformation, the SDGs and Agenda 2063.

Capacity to gather comprehensive information on complex problems or situations, and ability to evaluate and analyze information accurately in order to identify key issues and solutions.

Additional expertise and background in digital transformation, strategic partnerships and communications, development intelligence and innovation will also be considered. 

BENEFIT:

Each fellow will receive a monthly stipend to support accommodation and basic living costs at their respective duty station. In addition, paid leave and an earmarked learning budget will be allocated for undertaking relevant learning and development activities.

The Fellowship programme will cover expenses related to travel and medical insurance for the fellow only. Please note that the Fellowship Programme does not cover allowances, or any expenses related to your family members (travel, visa, schooling, health insurance, etc.).

DEVELOPMENT-RELATED POSTGRADUATE COURSES (EPOS) SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (DAAD)

LOCATION: Germany

The scholarships offer foreign graduates from development and newly industrialised countries from all disciplines and with at least two years’ professional experience the chance to take a postgraduate or Master’s degree at a state or state-recognised German university, and in exceptional cases to take a doctoral degree, and to obtain a university qualification (Master’s/PhD) in Germany.

ELIGIBILITY:

Graduates with at least two years’ professional experience from the following countries: list of eligible countries

Postgraduate courses for young professionals from developing countries

Internationally recognised masterʼs and PhD degrees

Duration: 12-24 months for a masterʼs degree (depending on the institution) and 40 to 42 months for a PhD degree

Study courses at German universities and universities for applied sciences

Scholarships funded by the BMZ (German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development), but admission is also open to self-financing participants or students financed through government or other sources.

Academic year 2026/2027

The ideal scholarship holder:

Is currently working for a public authority, a state, or a private company in a developing country and is involved in planning and executing directives and projects with emphasis on development policies.

Holds a bachelorʼs degree (or a masterʼs degree if applying for a PhD programme) in a related subject.

Has completed their academic degree/-s with far above average results (upper third) and can prove at least two years of related professional experience after completing their first degree (bachelorʼs).

Their academic degrees are no more than six years old.

Is a national of a country listed on the OECD-DAC list (except Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia (including Kosovo), Turkey)

BENEFIT:

Depending on academic level, monthly payments of 992 euros for graduates or 1,300 euros for doctoral candidates

Payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover

Travel allowance, unless these expenses are covered by the home country or another source of funding

Under certain circumstances, scholarship holders may receive the following additional benefits: Monthly rent subsidy

Monthly allowance for accompanying members of family
