WORLD FEDERATION OF SCIENCE JOURNALISTS (WFSJ): FELLOWSHIPS FOR SCIENCE JOURNALISTS TO ATTEND KAVLI PRIZE WEEK 2026

The World Federation of Science Journalists (WFSJ), in partnership with The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, invites applications for three travel fellowships for science journalists to attend the Kavli Prize Week in Norway from 29 August to 3 September 2026.

The fellowships will provide selected journalists with access to all official Kavli Prize Week events, including the awards ceremony and the official governmental banquet. Fellows will also have opportunities to interview the 2026 Kavli Prize laureates in astrophysics, nanoscience and neuroscience.

ELIGIBILITY:

Applicants must:

Be professional science journalists with at least five years of experience

Demonstrate a strong recent record of published science journalism, preferably in astrophysics, nanoscience, or neuroscience.

Be available to attend the full Kavli Prize Week programme in Norway.

Applications from journalists based in low- and middle-income countries are especially encouraged.

Applications will be reviewed by an independent jury appointed by the WFSJ Board. Selection will be based on journalistic excellence, demonstrated interest in the relevant scientific fields, and the potential impact of the applicant’s reporting.

A curriculum vitae, including contact information, professional affiliation (if on staff), affiliated social media handles (if applicable)

A brief motivation letter explaining your interest in covering areas related to the Kavli Prize Week

Links to three published or broadcast works in print, audio, or video. Work may be in any language (English translation or summary required where applicable). Preference will be given to applicants with publications/broadcast content focused on astrophysics, nanoscience, or neuroscience

BENEFIT:

Fellowship coverage: The fellowship programme will support three selected fellows. WFSJ will reimburse eligible expenses related to their air travel and lodging to attend the Kavli Prize Week in Norway. A per diem will be offered to cover local transport and meals in Norway.

“ART ON CLIMATE” INTERNATIONAL ILLUSTRATION COMPETITION

The “Art on Climate” International Illustration Competition is a collaborative initiative organized by Fingertips Company Limited and sponsored by Allianz Global Investors (AllianzGI). Their mission is to transform complex climate strategies into powerful visual stories. By inviting illustrators and video creators to explore the theme of climate change, we provide a global stage for innovative ideas and real-world solutions. Through this creative lens, we aim to inspire people to move beyond awareness and take meaningful action in their own lives.

ELIGIBILITY:

Competition Theme: Climate Change

Participants are invited to submit original works on the theme of “climate change”. Participants should draw inspiration from one or more of the following topics as a starting point of their artworks

Any person aged 18 or above*, from any location, is eligible to participate.

Aged 18 or above on 17 May 2026

Artwork Specifications:

Must be original works relevant to the theme of the competition and submitted by participants on an individual basis.

Each participant may submit up to three illustrations and three animated videos.

The submitted illustration(s) or animated video(s) must not have been previously published or used for any other purpose, and must not have been previously awarded or currently participating in other competition selections.

Submissions must not include any signatures, words, symbols, pictures, or voiceovers (for animated videos) that identify the participants.

Each illustration or animated video must be accompanied by a short description (minimum 30 words, maximum 100 words).

Important Dates:

    Register and upload artwork: from 18 May 2026 to 31 July 2026 inclusive

    Results announcement: winners will be notified by email, and results will be announced on this page by 30 September 2026

        All winners will receive a customised award certificate by email.

        The winning illustrations and animated videos will be put on display in a virtual exhibition.

        23 winning illustrations will be selected based on the 100-point scale that judges used for rating. The three artworks that received the highest number of points will be ranked as Champion, 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up accordingly, whereas the other 20 selected winning artworks will be ranked as Merit.

        3 winning animated videos will be selected based on the 100-point scale that judges used for rating. The three artworks that received the highest number of points will be ranked as Champion, 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up accordingly.
