UNIVERSITY OF SUSSEX SANCTUARY SCHOLARSHIP (MASTERS) (2026)

The University of Sussex has been awarded the title of University of Sanctuary in recognition of its efforts to welcome and support forced migrants. This Sanctuary Scholarship is one way that the university supports students that are unable to receive student loans to enable them to take up a place in their chosen degree at Sussex.

ELIGIBILITY:

This scholarship is offered to forced migrants or applicants granted a temporary form of leave only, to provide financial assistance in order to enable them to take up a place in a master’s degree at the University of Sussex. Therefore, applicants will be required to provide evidence of this in order to apply.

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must have received an offer of a place to study for a master’s degree at the University of Sussex. starting in September 2026. You must also:

Have submitted, or are the dependent of someone who has submitted, an application to the UK Home Office for recognition as a Refugee; or

Have been granted temporary form of leave to remain in the UK as a result of an asylum application (e.g., limited leave to remain, humanitarian protection) and not be eligible for funding from Student Finance England; or

Be a partner/child of an asylum seeker or an unaccompanied asylum-seeking child; and

Have a household income of under £35,000; and

Be unable to access UK government student financial support because of your current immigration status

In order to be considered for the scholarship, you will need to have accepted an offer of a place on an eligible Master’s course.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: UNIV’R SCHOLARSHIPS TO FRANCE

LOCATION: France

The UNIV’R Programme (Campus France, UNHCR, AUF) is now open for applications for master’s-level studies in France starting September 2026. You can choose up to two master’s programmes from the participating universities.

ELIGIBILITY:

Be recognized refugees (not asylum-seekers)

Live in a first country of asylum outside the EU

Be 30 years old or younger

Hold a Bachelor’s degree (Bac+3)

Have B2 level in French or English (depending on programme language)

Submit the online form via the UNHCR platform before 15 March 2026, 23:59 (Paris time).

Note that the form cannot be saved—prepare your documents beforehand.

BENEFIT:

The programme offers:

Full scholarship (living costs, travel, social security)

No tuition or visa fees

Administrative support and student housing

Long‑stay student visa (individual; no family reunification)
