CALL FOR APPLICATION—JAPANESE GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS (MEXT) 2026

The Embassy of Japan in Nigeria is now accepting applications for the MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology) scholarship program in Japan.
Please send your application through a post office/courier service or submit it in person to us at the Embassy of Japan, No. 9 Bobo Street, off Gana Street, Maitama, Abuja, on or before Friday, 30th.

ELIGIBILITY:

Applicants must have the nationality of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan

Applicants, in principle, must be born on or after April 2, 2001

Academic Background

Applicants must be willing to learn Japanese.

Applicants must submit a health certificate in the prescribed format signed by a physician attesting that the applicant has no physical or mental conditions hindering the applicant’s study in Japan

In principle, applicants must be able to arrive in Japan between April 1, 2026, and April 7, 2026. Departure from the home residence should be on or after April 1, 2026.

Applicants shall, in principle, newly obtain a “Student” visa at the Japanese diplomatic mission located in the applicant’s country/region of nationality and enter Japan with the status of residence as “Student.”

BENEFIT:

Allowance of 117,000 yen per month. A supplemental regional allowance of 2,000 yen or 3,000 yen per month will be added to the monthly scholarship amount for the grantees studying or conducting research in specially designated regions.

Fees for the entrance examination, matriculation, and tuition at specialized training colleges and preparatory educational institutions will be waived.

IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INTERNATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS

Iowa State University offers merit scholarships to both first-year and transfer international students. These scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence and a demonstrated record of accomplishments, offering valuable financial support as students pursue their educational goals at Iowa State.

ELIGIBILITY:

First-year international students are eligible for a limited number of merit scholarships. Selection is highly competitive and based on a holistic review of SAT or ACT scores and high school grades.

Be an incoming international first-year student who has been offered admission and is assessed international tuition.

Accept the offer of admission.

Submit the OneApp application.

Complete the General OneApp application.

Complete the International Student Admissions Scholarship application.

Start by completing the General Application. Then navigate to Opportunities > Recommended and select the International Students Admission Scholarship Application for spring term.

To retain your scholarship throughout your time at Iowa State, you must meet the following criteria:

Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 while enrolled at Iowa State.

Be continuously enrolled in at least 12 semester credits per term (excluding summer sessions).

Remain classified as an international student subject to international tuition rates.

Use the scholarship exclusively toward undergraduate tuition and fees.

BENEFIT:

International Merit Scholarship (Fall and Spring)

Award of Achievement: Up to $40,000 total ($5,000–$10,000 per year)

Award of Distinction: Up to $16,000 total ($2,000–$4,000 per year)

First-year recipients are eligible for funding for up to eight semesters or until degree completion, whichever occurs first.
