UNIVERSITY OF GRONINGEN ERIC BLEUMINK FELLOWSHIP

The University of Groningen Admission Office, in consultation with the Admission Boards of its faculties, is offering a scholarship for the Eric Bleumink Fellowship programme.

ELIGIBILITY:

Purposes: Master (MSc/MA/LL.M.)

Countries of Origin: Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh, Benin, Bhutan, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Chad, Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Kiribati, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nepal, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Somalia, Tanzania, Togo, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, Yemen, Timor-Leste, South Sudan, Central African Republic, Zambia, Bolivia, Cape Verde, Congo, Ghana, Honduras, India, Korea, Dem. Candidates for the Eric Bleumink Fellowship should:

Have received provisional or unconditional admission for a master programme before February. Only then will applicants be considered for a grant from the Eric Bleumink Fellowship (see Master’s degree programmes )

Have excellent academic performance, preferably to be confirmed by letters of recommendation

Have excellent grades during their bachelor/undergraduate studies;

Have excellent English language proficiency, in accordance with the admission requirements of the program of choice

Be available for the whole period of the programme and be able to take part in the entire programme

Be in good health so that health insurance in the Netherlands can be arranged.

Hold the nationality of a country appearing in Appendix 1.

Have no other means of financing the study in question

Only applicants who have received a provisional or unconditional admission offer for a master programme before February can thus be considered. In order to allow for enough time to process the application to a master programme by the Admission Office, such a master application should be completed by the applicant before 1st of December.

BENEFIT:

Grant information: The grant is awarded for 1-year or 2-year master’s degree programmes starting in September only.

The grant covers tuition fees, costs of international travel, subsistence, books, and health insurance. Please note that a considerable number of students apply for this scholarship each year, whereas the university can issue only a limited number of grants.

UNESCO/JAPAN YOUNG RESEARCHERS’ FELLOWSHIPS PROGRAMME

LOCATION: Japan

Established in 2001 under the Japanese Funds-in-Trust for the Capacity-Building of Human Resources, the UNESCO/Japan Young Researchers’ Fellowships Programme, also known as the UNESCO/Keizo Obuchi Research Fellowships Programme, is a long-standing initiative supported by the Government of Japan to strengthen research capacities and promote international knowledge exchange in areas aligned with UNESCO’s mandate.

ELIGIBILITY:

Under the 2026 cycle, UNESCO and the Government of Japan will award 10 fellowships to highly qualified young researchers from Africa, Small Island Developing States, Ukraine, and Türkiye. 

Applicants must:

Be nationals of one of the invited Member States or Associate Members listed in Annex 1;

Be no more than 40 years old at the time of application;

Hold at least a master’s degree or equivalent in a field relevant to the proposed research and demonstrate strong academic and research potential;

Demonstrate sufficient proficiency in reading and writing in the language of instruction or supervision at the proposed host institution in Japan;

Have obtained acceptance from an academic supervisor at a Japanese university or research institution, who will oversee the proposed research.

BENEFIT:

Selected fellows may receive a fellowship grant of up to US$10,000. The grant will be provided as a lump-sum contribution and is intended to cover costs directly related to the approved research stay in Japan.

The grant may cover:

International and domestic travel for the approved itinerary;

Accommodation;

Medical insurance;

Personal subsistence in Japan, including meals, local transportation and incidental expenses;

Other research-related expenses, where applicable.
