MASTERCARD FOUNDATION SCHOLARS PROGRAM AT MAKERERE UNIVERSITY’S FOR UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

Makerere University Management and the Mastercard Foundation renewed their partnership for the second phase of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program through 2034. The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University aims to deepen inclusive University education and empower 1,000 young people from Africa to make meaningful contributions to national and regional development. 

ELIGIBILITY:

To be eligible to apply for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University’s main campus, an applicant must belong to one of the following categories: Ugandan nationals, refugees, students with disabilities, internally displaced young people, or international students, and fulfil the following conditions;

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program will support talented young men and women from Sub-Saharan Africa who are facing economic barriers in pursuing university education.

The applicant must have applied for admission to Makerere University’s main campus under the private sponsorship scheme for the academic year 2025/2026. View Prioritised Undergraduate Degree Programmes to be considered for the Scholarship for Academic Year 2025/2026. (PDF)

The Applicant must have either;

Completed their advanced secondary level education (or its equivalent) in an African country or

Hold second class/credit diploma from any recognized institution or

Must have passed the mature age entry of Makerere University 

The Applicant should be experiencing financial hardships.

The Applicant should not be a holder of any other scholarship, including the Government of Uganda Scholarship.

The Applicant should not have completed any undergraduate degree Programme.

The Applicant should have demonstrated leadership potential and/or community service.

The Applicant should be 28 years old or younger at the time of the application deadline. 

Applicants in the Refugee or Persons with Disabilities categories should be 32 years old or younger at the time of the application deadline.

BENEFIT:

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University will provide scholarships for 10 years at the main campus for Undergraduate (Bachelor’s degree) and Graduate levels.

SYDNEY INTERNATIONAL UNDERGRADUATE ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP

LOCATION:  Australia

An undergraduate scholarship to support exceptional international students from diverse priority markets studying across diverse undergraduate courses at the University of Sydney.

ELIGIBILITY:

You must:

have applied for but not yet commenced a single undergraduate coursework degree (may include embedded honours) at the University of Sydney at the time of award which has a maximum duration of 4 years. Only applicants who apply for eligible courses will be considered for this scholarship. The scholarship is not available for combined degrees with a postgraduate component, the Bachelor of Arts (Dual Degree, Sciences Po, France), Bachelor of Economics (Dual Degree, Sciences Po, France) and degrees that include the Bachelor of Advanced Studies.

must enrol in their eligible degree full-time

not be commencing a second degree at the University of Sydney

be an international student as defined in the Higher Education Support Act 2003. Australian Citizens, Australian Permanent Residents and dual citizens with Australian nationality are not eligible

must have completed secondary school (or a foundation program in Australia or from a University of Sydney recognised foundation partner)

must not have previously undertaken any tertiary studies (excluding extension studies completed as part of a year 12 program).

BENEFIT:

The scholarship will provide the below benefits for the published full-time duration of the recipient’s single undergraduate degree (including embedded honours) up to a maximum total duration of 4 years full-time study.

100% tuition fees, and

Student Services Amenities Fee.

No other amount is payable. Recipients are responsible for all other costs for studying at the University of Sydney, including, but not limited to, Overseas Health Cover (OSHC), living costs, accommodation, textbooks, flights and costs associated with being under the age of 18.

Approximately 20 scholarships will be awarded globally per year across the two intakes focusing on diversity of course and diversity of nationality. The information listed here is subject to change without notice. Information describing the number and value of scholarships awarded is indicative.
