LOUGHBOROUGH DEVELOPMENT TRUST AFRICA POSTGRADUATE TAUGHT SCHOLARSHIP

The Loughborough Development Trust Africa Scholarship will cover 100% of successful applicants’ postgraduate taught course fees for one year.

ELIGIBILITY:

The scholarship application procedure is an open competition. Students may only apply for the scholarship after an offer for a place has been made. Students who are in possession of an offer (conditional or unconditional) of a place on a postgraduate taught course can apply for the scholarship using the application form which is available to download below.

Applications will be initially shortlisted and the final decision on the awards will be made by a selection panel of senior staff of the University. The selection panel will use the following eligibility criteria when assessing applications:

Currently domiciled (permanently living) in Africa

Evidence of exceptional academic achievement (normally a first-class honours degree)

Commitment to return to their home country on completion of their postgraduate programme

Evidence of the ability and commitment to making a significant contribution to their home country on their return

Full understanding of the costs involved in coming to study and live in the UK

Evidence of strong motivation and initiative to secure funds to cover the remainder of the costs involved

Applicants are advised to spend considerable effort ensuring that this application reaches the selectors in a form that is clear, well presented and which reflects their abilities and motivation.

Scholarship applications will not be considered unless the applicant is holding an offer or a place at the time of submission (this offer may be conditional or unconditional).

ABER SANCTUARY SCHOLARSHIP

Application Deadline: Monday, 31 March 2025, by 2359 GMT.

LOCATION: United Kingdom

The Aberystwyth Sanctuary Scholarship is open to those who do not have access to student finance. The deadline to submit your application form, evidence, and supporting documents is Monday, 31 March 2025, by 2359 GMT. Interviews will take place in May 2025 in person (or virtually if the applicants prefer).

ELIGIBILITY:

The Aberystwyth Sanctuary Scholarship is open to those who do not have access to student finance and hold one of the following immigration status in the UK:

You are an asylum seeker; or

You have been granted discretionary or Humanitarian Protection leave to enter or remain (with forced migration background); or

You are the partner/dependent of an asylum seeker/discretionary/Humanitarian Protection leave to enter or remain (with forced migration background).

AND

You have received a conditional or unconditional offer from Aberystwyth University to study a full-time undergraduate degree or International Foundation Certificate or postgraduate taught masters course.

You can provide a reference in support of your application from an organisation such as a school, college, community or voluntary group.

You have submitted an application to Aberystwyth University’s Sanctuary Scholarship by the deadline.

The scholarship is not available for our Veterinary Science courses nor for Postgraduate Research study.

BENEFIT:

Each scholarship:
Covers the full cost of the tuition fees for a maximum of the normal duration of the undergraduate/postgraduate taught programme for which the applicant has been admitted, until such time as they are awarded a status that entitles them to access student finance.

Covers the full cost of an International Foundation Certificate (if required) for the normal duration of the course.

Provides £8,000 per year towards living cost expenses.

Provides a free place (single room in a shared, self –catering apartment) in one of our Halls of Residence for scholarship students who wish to stay in University accommodation. Family accommodation is not available.

Provides English language support (if required) in the form of a 12 or 6-week Pre-sessional Course with free accommodation and an allowance towards living costs, for scholarship students who do not require an International Foundation Certificate.
